Well, I wasn't going to bother cutting away the body and refinishing, but sure, if they wanted to save me the trouble.

I finished the first build about a year ago. If they launch a Maverick a year after my next build I'm just going to be...annoyed haha.

I think they added more mustang into the body shape on purpose, hence the "Alternate reality" tag. I'm fine with it not being a straight up reissue. I'm into it. way to go Fender!

Somehow, I'm both excited and disappointed. Great that it's finally reissued, but the pointer body was a strange choice, seeming more "modern Fender budget offset" than the grace of the original.

And a bit wary: I love 12 strings, but they're a different deal than a 6 string. Although I've never played a real vintage XII, I did have a Venus XII and... didn't like how it sounded: very thin and slight somehow. Even Rickenbacker 12s somehow sound amazing to me one day and grating the next. (This may all be my own personal baggage, so feel free to ignore). I suspect some people will be surprised once they play it in real life.

(And I'm not sure how this is "alternate reality" beyond a slightly different shape and making some changes to hardware -- more like "reissue with what we have on hand" / Mexican Original series / Modern Player whatever etc).

I'm happy they released these even though I'm not in the market for one... but what I'd really like to know is if they are going to make the pickups available separately at a decent price. I'm already seeing myself making some wacky pu combinations with them.

What’s the problem with the body shape? That’s why we cwnt’t have nice things.

It is a bit off. too Pointy at the top. Not so offset in the butt.

Also missing the four-way.
I wonder if the almost perfect balance of the original is thrown at all.

The trick is not knowing perfectly well what the original shape is - I actually can't tell how different they are from looking at the photo

The rotary switch is quite cool, however - hopefully it will be an easy mod to make!
