This is mine. Custom pickguard and Novak pickups (JM-V in the neck and JM-90 in the bridge); also changed all the electronics.

Coolest pick guard I have seen. Ever.

How did you do this or where did you acquire it from?
Brendan cooper/pzorito on instagram used to make these and like crazy refinished offsets, but i havent seen him online in a long time sadly enough
I really like that. I wonder how he did it. I still follow him on IG and I sent him friend request on FB a while back. He was going through a rough patch so I hope he's ok.

Really dig this. Only thing I would *personally* change is the tuners - probably the Classic Gear tuners since they drop right in. Totally want to do this with one of my JMJMs.

I used Wilkinson locking tuners, a RH & a LH set. I also used a Deusenberg 12 string bridge, because it intonate each string separately.

What are we all using for tuners on the J Mascis? I know there are a few options that drop straight in, but which are people's preferred option? The stock ones on mine are a bit sloppy.

This is an early one circa 2012. Got it for a STEAL locally with the Kinman Thickmasters and AV Witch Hats already onboard. I miraculously found some Staytrem conversion thimbles locally, so I popped a Staytrem bridge on along with a Mastery Vibrato I had hanging. I strung it up with Tenorio rainbow wrap Jazzmaster strings into some Kluson Revolution Locking tuners from a previous project and It plays UNBELIEVABLY well :w00t:

The one above looks great, very unique. I've never encountered any Mastery hardware in person but the colored anodized versions look awesome.

I used to lurk this thread extensively before and after I bought my Mascis JM in 2017, so I will offer this medium-quality photo of how mine ended up now that I think I'm done modifying it, just in case any new or old owners of JMJMs are still looking to make some mods. There could very well be an exact duplicate of this guitar earlier in the thread since I learned what I know from browsing here:

Image

The neck and body are original, but I added a Staytrem bridge, AVRI tremolo, Seymour Duncan Antiquities II, ebay pickguard, and witch hat knobs. I'm not a great solderer in the first place and my attempts to improve the electronics with the cheapest soldering iron possible failed, so I stripped the old ones and put a harness from Reverb in. I love the feel of anodized pickguards but the original gold was a little garish; I think the green complements the body/neck/strap colors well. I had flatwounds on it for the past ~2 years but found myself playing it less with them on. I like how flatwounds sound on my bass and otherwise stock VM Jaguar, but the JM sounded a little too dark with these pickups plus flatwounds. I may have bought too heavily into the argument that "JMs were designed to be played with flatwounds" vs. I recently saw the argument that flatwounds suppress some of the behind-the-bridge harmonics that contribute to the JM character. I think I'll leave the guitar as it is with roundwounds for a while before I put together my own opinion on that.

I added up all the receipts for things I've put into this guitar and it came out to $991, which seems like a nice stopping point before I get into four figure territory. When I bought it, my only other guitar was a $90 amazon strat clone which was almost unplayable, so this was a great starting point for both actually getting better at playing guitar and figuring out how to do mods/think about why I might want to do mods in the future.

Hey can I have one of my fellow owners take a couple measurements for me? I’m trying to get a Jaguar neck made with this profile and don’t know how to take them myself. I need the nut, heel and 1st and 12th fret thickness

Thanks in advance cool dudes

Also really wish I wouldn’t have insisted on a CBS headstock decal as the original logo looks way better on these haha

I have a white (cream) colored guitar with the gold pickguard. I want to paint the headstock to match the body. Can someone suggest a spray can color that will closely match the body.

Bit of an old update from my last post in this thread giving my Squier J Mascis Signature JM a Ren & Stimpy makeover - figured I should add it here:

I installed Curtis Novak JM-HC Diamond Jazzmaster pickups a while back. Really enjoying the JM-HC pickups.
