Thanks for the clarification.JagInTheBag wrote:
This isn't entirely true. Most post '91 BIG MFD pickups Neck 4.7K - Bridge 5.4K ohms, Tele-Style MFD's are 3.9K - 4.5K (Neck, Middle); 4.8K (Bridge, pre-1993); 5.6K (Bridge, post-1993) Strat Style (like the S-500) are 4.1K - 5.0K
The ones in my SC-2 are ASAT Super Spec, Neck 5.4K- Bridge 5.7K
Hope that helps.

Re: NGD: G&L SC-2
Here's the thing....I love single coils. I have humbucker equipped guitars for some use in recordings but on a whole I always move towards single coil guitars. Jazzmaster, P-90's and Mosrite pickups are my favorite single coils. I have never really warmed to strat single coils although I do think Lace Sensors are OK. I play with a decent amount of gain and I really want clarity in a pickup. Timbo winds some Jazzmaster pickups that I just love for this. P-90's tend to get a bit muddy when used with gain and humbuckers for sure get muddy. I am sure there are countless suggestions for ones that aren't muddy but I just don't feel like trying a ton of humbuckers to get something I know I can get from a single coil. Anyway I really like Mustangs as far as the smaller body vs a Jazzmaster of Jag but always dealt with two issues...1. the shorter scale was OK but not my bag and 2. it had strat singles in it.JagInTheBag wrote:But enough about all that, Johnny Alien, are you going to treat us with a tone report?
But that is all getting back to what I already said and I am supposed to be talking about these pickups. I have played ASAT Specials before but never for long as I never really wanted a tele. I knew that they were in the ballpark of what I wanted and now after spending weeks with them I can say 100% they are absolutely my favorite pickup. They seem more powerful than JM pickups and take gain a bit better too. They can do a psuedo P-90 thing but with none of that muddiness that they can sometimes have. They can really crank like Mosrite pickups but without being as out of control and feedback prone as those. The MFD's are almost hifi sounding but still totally rock at the same time. The tone and volume knob can really change the dynamics of them. They can do a clean surf thing and also have gain piled on without losing any definition. I'm actually bummed that I haven't given them a larger run through a long time ago.

So my friend owns a guitar shop and he got a mint used Fallout so I went to check it out. And of course I left with it. This is the first Tribute I have played and I am a little amazed that it's this good. It's lighter than the USA one.

Both look great. I can't believe I used to dislike that head stock. Took me a while, but now I think they look great.
I've heard the Tribute series uses the same USA pickups and bridges as the US G&Ls.

I am ok with the slightly rounded ASAT headstock used on these guitars but don't like the sharp angle one found on the Legacy model.
The USA pickups is semi-true. All of the MFD models use the same USA pickups. For the Fallout the USA model used a Seymour Duncan JB pickup in the bridge and the tribute used a G&L designed bridge pickup that was wound to specs somewhere in Asia. People apparently preferred that pickup so the USA model started using it as well. There are two stories. One that it's wound to the same specs but made in the USA while the tribute pickup is still Asian made and the other story is that the USA model uses the exact same Asian made pickup.
The bridge hardware is essentially the same. All bridges are made in Asia even for the USA models. The USA bridge has different saddles though. Not sure why.

I agree. The Legacy/Comanche headstock doesn't look nearly as good. I like the ASAT headstock as well.Johnny Alien wrote:I am ok with the slightly rounded ASAT headstock used on these guitars but don't like the sharp angle one found on the Legacy model.

Just picked up this 2010 Lake Placid Blue one. This one is lighter than the ivory one.

Everything you need and nothing you don't right there. What a beautiful guitar.

Woo. Excellent guitars. I have a black '88 SC3 - although it's sort of gratuitous to mention since it's a totally different body from either the early or new style SC2s. Love G&Ls anyway

G&L makes great guitars. Love their saddlelock bridge. Their pickups are great as well. I had a Fallout Tribute. Still said I had to let it go, but the neck was just too big for me. I wish they made a 24" inch scale model, like a G&L Jag.

Enjoy the SC!
My first electric was a used ‘82 SC-1. It was factory custom, had a two point trem, and a Strat neck pickup (decal still said SC-1). Loved that thing, cut my teeth with it. I also put a fake tort pickguard on it because I thought it looked too plain. I was a kid, what the hell did I know? I cracked the neck when I ran 12s on it for awhile. A moving mishap made it terminal
