Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
I agree but I suspect Fender will say "If you want exact vintage specs you'll have to go the Custom Shop route."
I doubt Fender, as big as they are, does anything arbitrarily. Their research probably showed them that more people would buy an AVRI if it had a flatter radius and bigger frets, so here we are. Maybe those Thin Skins sold really well. I don't know.
If this turns out to be true I suppose, ironically, purists would be better off getting a Mexican reissue since those will keep the vintage specs.

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
Well.....those two (assumed) new models don't really do it for me. The LPB "American Original" would look better with a matching headstock, and I really don't care for tort with colors other than SB, black , and white......except maybe fiesta red. With a mint guard it would look good tho. I like vintage spec necks, but the modern fretboard would not be a dealbreaker for me. In fact, my 50th Ann. Jag(w/AV65 pickups) with 9.5 rad. has become my favorite offset, so perhaps these models will sell better with 9.5 board/ taller frets than with vintage spec. I just don't get the "Original" part of the name.........unless they are thinking of Leo's four "original" guitar models. Wonder if other custom colors will be available? If so, I might become more interested.
As far as the 60th Jazzmaster, I guess the 2TSB and gold pickguard pays homage to some of the very first Jazzmasters. Don't know about the black PU covers and chromed knobs tho - I think those make it look like some kind of cheap customized Squier model. Were originals like that? I agree that the black is more 'color coordinated" with the 2TSB etc., so maybe I'll get used to the look. My first reaction was that parchment covers and knobs would look better. Is that body ash or alder?
Don't think these models are for me, but hope others like them and they sell well.

No matching headstocks just look weird to me

It’s the opposite for me. I really dislike matching headstock. Unless it’s an all rosewood neck.

the sunburst one reminds me of justin sinkovich's jazzmaster only with a gold guard instead of annodized black.

They're replicating the look of the '58 prototype, which had black pickup covers and Tele-style knobs.jdr1014 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 7:06 am

I just want some blocks, binding, and a matching headstock, already!

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
I'm sort of conflicted on the fretboard changes.
My own vintage Jazzmaster has huge/modern frets. I bought it without playing it from a forumite and I'll be honest ... I was thinking that if the frets didn't work for me I'd just get it refretted.
As it turns out bigger frets, with decent fret work, can be really nice to play. As someone who always preferred vintage type wire this was a big revelation for me. Now I don't really worry or think about it - my old Gibsons have a mish mash of fret wire - my ES345 has vintage style fret wire and played great - my SG Custom has wide/flat frets (it's been refretted - they're not the fretless wonder frets), the SG Junior has, I suspect, it's original frets ... they all play fine.
The radius won't be too much of a bother either - sure, I prefer vintage radius on a Fender, but to be honest as most vintage Fenders I've owned have been refretted I can't say for certain that I've actually played a vintage radius on a vintage guitar - the likelihood is that the radius flattened when the guitars were planed as part of a decent/full refret. Not fully - but maybe somewhere between vintage and 9.5. Then again, I switch between Fender and Gibson so the change to the radius won't really get to me.
I like the look of that '58 - I might even be tempted to pick one up this year. The '65 looks wrong without a matched headstock - and wrong with tort. But hey ... others might like it.

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
All this hubbub spurred me to buy an American Vintage 64 Tele on clearance from CME today. I’m a sucker for the year specific reissues and associated attention to detail.
great OSG deals with: ncarey13, skip.
great TGP deals with: drjoel, 12strings, Tim P, angrybandnerd, echobaseone, guitarpkr67, jcampbell331

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
I like the idea of a vintage style JM with a 9,5" radius. Kinda like the Thinskins which are impossible to find here in Europe.
However I am wondering how expensive these American Originals will be. And I really hope they are doing more colors than just CAR, White and sunburst. Sherwood green would be nice.. It also makes no sense to me that they are going to delete the AVRI line.

Be interesting to see what it does to AV65 prices. I've seen them come down below $1300 in the States (I bought my gold AV65 JM for $1300 a couple of years ago...AND with Mastery) and they usually sell for less than AVRI 62's used.

God I'd kill for that gold JM with mastery for 1,300....
Hoping to one day get the firemist silver jazzmasters for cheaper.

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
Not sure if this has already been covered here, but I was reading the copy for the American Original on a dealers website and it certainly seems like the beginning of the end for the AV line....
Quite a shame, although I'm rather glad I didn't hang on for new AV Jag colours now!....the Fender American Original '60s Jazzmaster is part of the new line that's replacing the American Vintage series. Rendered in one of it's most excellent finishes...

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
For a few weeks right before Xmas 2015 the used AV65 prices seemed to bottom out. There were three used gold JM's and a sunburst all in the $1300s at once. It was a stretch for me but I'm glad I bought mine. I've not seen them come that low since. But still AV65's trade for less than AVRI's.N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 10:05 amGod I'd kill for that gold JM with mastery for 1,300....

Re: NO Fender winter namm rumors?
Has anyone spotted an American Original Jag yet? I’m starting to wonder if they’ve left it out.
