Modern Player Jazzmaster

Post by HNB » Thu May 10, 2018 11:48 am

I found someone selling one with the vintage tremolo placement so I had to grab it. They can be kind of hard to find. The ones with the tremolo moved closer to the TOM are much easier to find online in my searching. I love the maple block neck. The previous owner even put strap locks on it that I use! Super happy. I did swap out the mother of pearl guard for a black one I had around from a different one I worked on a ways back. It was broken by the bridge pickup so I super-glued the crack. Seems ok. With the wear and corrosion on the other parts, it doesn't look out of place at all. I kept the electronics as is. The toggle works fine and the pots are mini Alpha ones that seem fine. The stock pickups also sound fine to me. The neck is bassy, but not muddy and the bridge pickup is bright enough for my tastes. The TOM bridge seems totally fine and holds the strings in place fine. I need to order new strings, but here it is with the pickguard swap. :) It is a perfect mate for my Schecter Spitfire that is black with block maple neck. :D Oh, in case the reader doesn't know, these have mahogany bodies. They came in black and satin red a few years back. The satin red had a normal Jazzy neck and the black has the maple with block neck.

I was so upset when they discontinued these things. They look great and they’re an excellent platform.

I love it. The neck feels great and it has pretty much what I do when I mod guitars. Humbuckers, toggle, volume and tone. I normally just leave the jazz section in the upper horn empty so I don't miss it.

I really regret missing out on these. BB&B is one of the coolest things on an Offset and you almost never see it.

Always cool to see some maple B&B action! Man, I really should have grabbed one of these when they were blowing them out.

Does it have routes for JM pickups and rhythm circuit or just the HBs?

Just the humbucker routs and the toggle and lower control area. :)

Nice score! These are rare indeed.
After I get a new Jaguar, a Jazzy is on the list and I may be on the lookout for one of these in red ; great modding platforms.

Got strings on. I actually like the stock pickups quite a bit. They have good contrast and the output is pretty even.

Two things I despise on guitars: maple fretboard and black block inlays

But for some reason your Modern Player looks gorgeous! Nice one.
