Ah. The old out the back door routine. Something is meant to be disposed/thrown out but it's still useful so someone takes it home with them.

Would not surprise me in the slightest if Fender themselves drops the occasional prototype off at a pawn shop. Anyone who reads a thread like one of these is going to be slightly less quick to dismiss the oddball Fender hanging up at the pawn shop as someones refin mod project, it is good for business, builds the lore and adds to the mystique. Prototypes find their way onto the open market a bit to often for it to be sticky fingered employees, Fender either does it on purpose or turns a blind eye I suspect.
I do enjoy these sorts of threads.

Good conclusion. Maybe you will see your ex-guitar on tour someday.

Weird. I didn't notice that it didn't have contours. That's the reason they got rid of it????spingo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 9:02 pmI didn't get anything yet! I'm more of an inept junkhacker type than an owner of fine instruments, so I'm gonna get something later. Maybe a mutated Strat Mini with 4 pickups or something, I don't know yet.
The green guitar wasn't to spec (Chris noticed there was no forearm contour, for instance), so it was marked for disposal and then kind of fell through the cracks.

The other magic part of the story is that OP had the $ to buy the guitar at the pawn shop in the first place. 99% of the time I go into any music store I'm not really there for a purchase.

Yeah... those, or the ones where they messed the paint up with those weird stripes on the finish. Those are the worst.

I'm even less picky. Not only would I make do with one of those stripey ones, I'd even take one of those old stripey ones where they got some of the finish on the headstock.dren68 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 31, 2018 1:00 pm

A necro-post I know but here's a nice follow up - Ryan's Techie doing some work on this, now legendary instrument.
