Bizarre Ibanez Offset?

Post by CrookedRainJr » Wed Sep 19, 2018 8:59 am

This popped up locally and I had never seen it before personally. I know Ibanez obviously has their Talman, but curious on what this one sounds like and how rare they are.

I'm no expert, but it looks to me like a classic case of someone calling a Teisco/Kawaii/Matsumoku guitar an Ibanez, "from the Ibanez facory".

Actually, on closer inspection, is that a logo on the headstock?

Yeah, that's an old Ibanez. I've seen that kind before.

I stand corrected. Those pickups and volume/tone knobs, seen on so many generics from c. the early '70s threw me.

I unfortunately have nothing to offer, but I've gotta say that thing looks really cool! Reminds me of Teisco, with a bit of Yamaha SG in there as well, maybe. 8)

Given the hardware appointments and thin body I'd venture to suggest it's a very early Ibanez, from before the brand really took off as their quality improved. Not absolutely convinced it has an offset waist, for that matter. I think that radial truss rod denotes Matsomoku manufacture, but my memory's pretty bad for those kinds of details.

I'd class it as just an old guitar that might just as well have had any number of brand names attached, rather than compare it to a vintage Ibanez from their golden years, personally, and as such I think the price is kind of steep (though I'm not really up on $ prices).

I had one of those once, they were actually named Bizarre. It felt cheap and Teisco-ish. Sold it for a good profit.

I can't see the photo, but my guess is Ibanez 1830/1850/1860/1880 from the late 50s or early 60s, built by Guyatone and resurrected in the 2000s as Ibanez Jet King.
