Jaguar weight advice
Looking for some advice from the seasoned Jaguar players.
Just bought a Marrguar from an online retailer (I couldn’t source one locally, in Ireland!). It weighs 4kg (8.8 lbs) proper Les Paul weight. It’s way heavier than I would like, otherwise it’s perfect.
My Jazzmaster weighs much less, 3.7kg (8.1 lbs) and feels perfect to me. From a trawl online this doesn’t seem to be an uncommon weight. Are Jags just way heavier or is this just a particularly meaty one?
Would you keep it and get accustomed to the weight or send it back and see if there are lighter ones? Will I even get one much lighter? Help! Thanks!

My JM Jag weighs about the same as my ECJM. Find one that feels better.

Re: Jaguar weight advice
honestly. a decent padded strap makes all the difference. my jaguar weighs a good 6.5+ KG but it's not too bad because i have a nice padded strap.

Re: Jaguar weight advice
Jags are on average heavier than JMs. They have less wood routed out for pickups and have more metal plates. It's always made sense to me.
I've gotten used to jags always being heavy guitars, but I have never bothered to weigh any of mine. If the weight bothers you, sounds like it's not the right guitar for you. There are definitely lighter jags than that out in the wild, but you'd have to buy from somewhere that weighs the guitars and lets you choose a specific one.

I've only seen a couple of Jags listed at 8ish pounds (and only one, ever, below 7 - a Danocaster with an ultra light ash body). Upper 8s appears to be the norm.

Re: Jaguar weight advice
Yeah, modern Jaguars tend to be heavier than modern Jazzmasters of the same series. Those metal plates probably have a lot to do with the weight difference. 8.8 lbs isn't unusually high IMO.

My AV65 Jag is 4.0kg (8.8lbs) and that's OK with me but I won't go above 9lbs for a guitar. My AVRI62 was 3.7kg, though, which was quite nice. Hard to find them much lighter than that, but I have seen a few in the 3.5-3.6kg range.

.
Check body thickness Jaguar to Jazzmaster. Original JMs started out 1-3/4 thick and then around 1964 they thinned the bodies up to 1-5/8ths which shaves a significant amount of weight off. Did the Jaguars do the same? Or are they still thick as a Tele/LP? I only have JM and not a Jaguar handy to check.

Sites like Sweetwater show Pics of the actual Guitar & their weight...
That said, my AV65 Jag feels lighter than my AV65 JM although I've never weighed them.

Re: Jaguar weight advice
The lightest guitar I ever owned was a TVL Jazzmaster that was less than 7 lbs. the heaviest guitar I’ve ever owned is my ‘66 Jaguar and that includes a VI, an 80s giant heavy as hell Firebird and a Jazz Bass

Re: Jaguar weight advice
Despite being a lot weightier than my other guitars I do like it a lot. I'm going to give it another week or so to make up my mind. It's noticeable when I lift it but with a strap it's not so bad.
Incidentally, I browsed, phoned and emailed around a lot of other stores to see if they had lighter ones in stock and mine was the lightest of all of them. Somehow, my scales now say its actually 3.9kg/8.6lbs and most of the others were all a lot heavier.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I quite like the weight of a Jag
