I asked forum member HNB (Christopher) if he'd make this one for me.

This thread is great! Nice decal too.

So I’ve contacted the Axemaster and he asked me for length, height, and thickness. Where would I get these numbers from? I’ve got an Olympic White Squier VM Bass IV, at the moment it’s got the LaBella .95 string set.

I’m dead set on brass now, because it’ not made from an animal and works as well as bone.

That's my setup as well. I didn't get in to any of that. I hit BIN on their stock Squier VI nut with compensated slots. I imagine they could cut you a brass one to their specs, no?

I would also just order on ebay. They fit.

+1

Bought the compensated Bone Nut for my VM Squier VI and it fit like a glove. No need to customize.

I have a .95 LaBella low E string as well. No issue with it and the AxeMasters nut.

Okay I finally have some time to work on this thing and the original nut doesn't give at all. Any tips?

Use a wood block and give it a tap with a hammer. Place the block and tap on the headstock side, toward the body. If you tap the other way (toward the headstock), you could end up chipping away the radius block behind the nut.
I learned that one the hard way, on another guitar...

Yeah, don’t attack it with a screwdriver. My flipped 339 now has a bit of paint missing around the neck/headstock from some pretty solid glue. (Oh, and my laziness at not wanting to sand down the replacement that was 1mm too thick. Trying to wedge in the new one caused more damage)

Cut the poly finish covering the nut on the sides with a razor, in line with the slot. Cut it deep. If you do a good job, you might even have a square piece of poly fall off that was covering the nut. In a perfect world you'll cut just a hair wider than the nut itself, so when you push it out, it won't chip the finish.

When I replaced my Bass VI with a bone nut, I tapped the original out with a chisel and ball peen hammer. It wasn't slathered in CA glue like some CV Squiers I've worked on.

Hey DeathJag, I'd be interested to hear how you got on with the brass nut, thinking about going with one for the same reasons.

You know, I haven’t even played that guitar in a long time and I never got around to replacing that nut! I’ve been practicing regular guitar which I really need to do.

Maybe if I were playing bass in a band I’d pursue this instrument, sorry!

Thanks for getting back to me on it anyhow. I'll take the plunge with it anyhow and see how it goes. Cheers!

Hey there. Ordered a Axemaster compensated bone nut for my CV VI. I use La Bellas with the 95 low E.. should this gauge fit ok in the Axemaster?
