Single Guitar Families

Post by MC3 » Mon Apr 29, 2019 2:08 pm

How many of you only have one electric guitar, and that one electric guitar is an offset of some kind?

I realized that I acquire GAS quickly, and I'm trying to change that. I try to limit myself to one guitar at a time. As of now, that one guitar is a Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster. It's had issues, but I really love the thing. In fact, the only reason I am posting this is because it's in the shop right now getting fixed and set up, so I really miss it haha.

I don't think it necessarily makes me a better player (I continue to, and always will, SUCK), but it definitely lets me stay more in tune to the guitar's idiosyncrasies and quirks that I have kinda grown to love.

If you have a lone offset (or just guitar), let me hear about it!

Guitar’s in the shop? All the more reason to have a spare.

If I could only have one electric guitar it would be a Tele, but I have... more than that.

I almost qualify. I have one electric, a crappy acoustic, and a bass. I don't remember what the acoustic is, but it's a fender mim. jaguar player bass and a parts jazzmaster customized just how I likes. I don't have need for much more but I'd love a 12 string electric or acoustic electric

I enjoy having a selection of very different instruments. I keep all of them in different tunings, some are modded to have more or less strings than six and it's a lot of fun. I bought my guitars when I was younger, though, and grown-up me sometimes thinks I could do with one acoustic, one electric, one bass. But I have kept them for too long around me to part with them now and most of them are way too modded to sell them anyway.
I wouldn't go on tour without a backup guitar, but also with as less guitars as possible. If I can tour with two guitars, it's perfect.

Sometimes I like the idea of just having one 'old faithful', but ultimately they all sound and feel different, suggest different ideas when I pick them up etc.

I'm currently up to 5 strung up and fully functioning electrics, and maybe 6 or 7 projects, whereas normally it's 1 strung up and the rest projects, and actually really enjoying being able to choose which sound I want for a track etc.

Dude this way too controversial.
I do always have one guitar I want to buy - does that count?

Every second you spend shopping for guitars is time you could've used for playing guitar.

Having said that, I have 4 offsets, 2 Teles, and waaay too many Cigar Box Guitars.

I think I like guitars as a cool object as much as I like them as a tool for creation... and I'm much better at shopping than I am at playing. So I never feel like shopping for them is a waste of time (for me).

(also, I do have too many guitars)

That's not true. I can't play guitar while I'm on the bus, or taking a dump, or on the plane, or on a trip, or on work breaks.

Every second you spend not thinking about guitars is time you could've used for thinking about guitars.

I had one electric guitar, a Jazzmaster for many years, but I also always had an acoustic.

As I grew older and had more disposable income, I went up to two electrics and an acoustic. One of the two electrics still a Jazzmaster. I stayed there for many years.

Nowadays I am up to 6, although one is for sale currently...if I had to pick one guitar to keep out of my collection it would be my Les Paul with the P90/Alnico pickup combo. After almost six years it still is my undisputed #1. :-*

I kind of hit the skips financially some years ago, employment problems and relationships ending and such. Cleared me out financially and so I got down to a core of my old Jazzmaster, a Martin D-1 and a G&L L-1000 bass, which was just fine, really. All of those are such great instruments for me and I love them all, and learned how to play those instruments on those instruments, basically.

Then I went back to school at a later age and there was certainly no money for guitars then, and I was kind of not really into the guitar all that much at that point. I was digging deeper into theory and composition, singing in a choir, learning studio engineering and electronic music.

But, I promised myself a Telecaster when I got done with school. I got it!

Then shit got out of control.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.
