I like options but the biggest reason to have more than one guitar is tunings. I don't miss the days of retuning just to play a different song.

But I thought strat's were offsets???
And I'm curious, how does one go about cleaning themselves without the pick getting in the way?

I’ve never really felt the need to have more than one guitar.

True. Having my partscaster in Drop C makes me feel less bad about having it. And when it isn't I usually have one guitar with flats and one without.

That's cool! But, I've never been compelled to limit the possibilities by having only one....... I'm glad I didn't. I really enjoy having a Palette of all kinds of Vibes, Tones & Sound. Not to mention the pleasure of enjoying them as beautiful Art & Design..thatfenderguy wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 3:33 pmI’ve never really felt the need to have more than one guitar.

One guitar. Is it a dream or a nightmare, I don't know

Re: Single Guitar Families
Since my mid-teens I've always technically owned at least one electric and one acoustic but for a time during my uni years the only one I had with me was a Telecaster.
It did force me to learn how to get a range of different sounds out of a single guitar, which was good for me.
These days I've got two 6-string electrics, a bass, a 12-string electric and a 6-string acoustic. Any more would feel like a waste. If it came to it I could definitely get by with a single guitar.

Re: Single Guitar Families
Not long after I started playing Guitar I got a job at a Music Store selling them. I was hooked from then on.... I was surrounded by Gibsons, Fenders, Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Martins & Guilds. How could I not get hooked on them? I got to play them all the time. Each of them had their own magic! From that point on I started my quest to collect what I thought were the best of each.....
Over several years I'm lucky to have some really good examples of almost all of them.....
There are still a couple more I've got on my list.......

Re: Single Guitar Families
i've been completely happy with my Jazzaster for a LONG time. I've had other guitars come and go, Jaguars & other, but i recently just picked up a second Jazzmaster that i'm going to tune differently and have humbuckers put in.
Familiarity + more tonal options are enough to justify purchasing the same guitar style.

If you can be happy with one, more power to you, but I personally view people who (intentionally) own just one guitar the same way I view people who own like 12+ guitars - “why is that necessary?”

Re: Single Guitar Families
I'm down to 2 these days, don't really seem to have the room for more. I had 3 up until I sold my Classic Fender 60s JM, just wasnt getting the amount of play that my classic Fender 60s Jag, and Squier J Mascis JM were getting. I'm pretty happy for now, well until something comes up....

I've fantasized about going pawn shop digging for Squiers and building an array of different weird tunings like Sonic Youth.

Re: Single Guitar Families
how about a guitar family with a single type of guitar?
I wouldn't have a problem if I only had my Jaguars (and some more )
but i can't sell my first electric guitar it''s the worst guitar in the universe (ibanez rg) but it's a gift from my parents
also I can't sell my Dads vintage EKO

Re: Single Guitar Families
If you are happy with just one - stay that way!
I'm envious. I have a dozen or so guitars and to be honest, I wish I could be happy with just one. There are costs associated with maintaining multiple guitars (cash you don't have, possible interest payments, parts, strings, storage, etc). They are expensive. Take up space. And at times, having multiple guitars makes you spend more time doing guitar techy stuff than playing/being creative with it. Now that I've had multiple guitars for many years, it's hard to part with them and what they offer (for example, having an arch top with flatwounds, having a beater guitar, having a nice looking guitar that you 'baby/polish', different tunings/tones, etc.) This separation anxiety further adds to the aggravation and all the woes mentioned.
All that said and aside, having multiple guitars has its plusses too - but at what cost?
