I am pretty sure Fender got the Meteora from Kurt Cobain...
So I was watching Montage of Heck and I saw this:

What are the odds someone at Fender saw this too?

A reasonable amount of similarity. Could be an inspiration directly, iterated or not at all.

Re: I am pretty sure Fender got the Meteora from Kurt Cobain...
Every time I’d look at Kurt’s actual notes on his designed guitars I always reacted how Kevin does when he finds the picture of Buzz’s girlfriend.
I could swear to god, I think it was in that book they released that was like all of his art stuff, that he drew some notes in talks with fender and the headstock was the one they ended up using for the EVH guitars or at least the Wolfgang. I’ve been unable to find anything like that but the image is burned into my brain and it had attached to it like “this headstock but if not possible the normal fender one is fine” and I always thought that was real funny
All this is super relevant I know

Looks like he's playing the neck pickup there. That neck pickup is definitely wider than the humbucker too—it must be a original danelectro. And that sure looks like a Carvin humbucker to me.

That'll be from one of the Jagstang sketches, I believe https://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv2 ... ketch4.jpgMechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2019 9:35 pmEvery time I’d look at Kurt’s actual notes on his designed guitars I always reacted how Kevin does when he finds the picture of Buzz’s girlfriend.

To be honest, I think any of us who've doodled guitars in math notebooks would have hit upon an eventually-used design "first". Surely a poorly-drawn Jazzmaster might have looked a bit like a Talman at some point, and a poorly-drawn Strat would have looked like every Strat clone ever.
Plus the fact that there tends to be a lot of room for interpretation between a sketch and the final product -- heck, the patent for the Marauder ended up looking nothing like the prototypes. I admire the dedication, attention to detail, and plain love involved in cloning the original Jagstangs down to their exact specs, but they were after all a first prototype off some notebook scribbles -- who knows what the actual guitar Kurt Cobain imagined looked like?

To me the Meteora looks like a slightly emaciated Telemaster with design inspiration from The Jetsons.
I like Kurt’s design better. Its somehow more organic looking.

Erm...no. Not close at all. Only similarity is they are both offsets. You may as well say Fender got the Meteora from Jazzmasters, which they actually did.
As pointed out there are many other actual guitars that look closer to either the Meteora or the sketch.
