Gold Anodized pickguard on a Jaguar?

Post by aliendawg » Tue Jun 11, 2019 4:53 pm

Search didn't return pictures... Found one on Google but it was Fiesta Red and I'm particularly curious about a gold guard on a sunburst Jag

Has anyone tried this? How did it look?

I’ve realized I don’t like playing a guitar that feels like aluminum siding as much as I’d think - but I love the look still :)

They don't. Custom Shop Jags have from time to time featured gold hardware that they had plated as a one-off/small run. That's not a mass-produced part you can order from them or get on a standard model.

For whatever reason, to me, Jaguars are like the one guitar where regardless of what color the guitar is it always looks better with tort.

Never seen an anodized gold guard on one before that picture and I’m surprised it wasn’t a common thing back in the day.

Anodized guards were discontinued on jazzmasters and p-basses in early 59 right? Those were the only high end models that they came on standard, correct?

Well, they were phased out of the Fender lineup before the Jag was conceived, so they never coexisted. Kind of like how there were no maple fretboards Jaguars in the pre-CBS days. Like the anodized guards, that was a 50's feature that was eliminated before the jag's time (but unlike gold guards, maple would make a comeback as an option on late CBS era Jags).

It's such a pretty feature of early Jazzmasters. I'm surprised nobody ever tried this on a sunburst Jag even if it's not period correct

Yeah no I get all that I just meant I’m surprised they didn’t ever use them. I guess it’s moot, knowing fender’s reputation for using up every possible piece of everything they have and moving onto something new/cheaper, I really shouldn’t be surprised - it’s not like they were gonna suddenly start doing them again for this one guitar.
