Re: New Squier Starcasters - Classic Vibe, Contemporary, and Affinity
Is anyone seeing these in stores? None of the big stores in Canada seem to have any, and my local big store says 100 days to get it in on special order. Did they just sell out of the initial run and I missed it, or are they still a little rare?

Re: New Squier Starcasters - Classic Vibe, Contemporary, and Affinity
They’re the TV Jones “EM1 Gibson Style Pickup Rings.” They’re not a true fit for the existing holes and routes (I had to remove a trivial amount of wood, and the pickup ring mounting screws are actually kind of splayed at an angle to “cheat” the difference), and turned the pickup rings backwards relative to what they’d do on a Gibson, as the contour of the top is different. I sprayed plastic-compatible spray paint on the rings as the “cream” color looks like Barbie-doll fleshtone against the Squier “vintage white” or whatever it’s called.Chrisrnps, I wanted to do the same. Curious, which pickup rings are you using?

So cool. Did the Bigsby come with it, or did you install it? If you installed it, did it screw right into place?

That’s how I’m feeling too. Haven’t seen them in the US or in Norway, but maybe that’s changed.

I saw an Affinity Starcaster at a small music store in South Ontario. Just the one model. Haven't seen any at the local Long and McQuade though.

Tried out a CAR Affinity Starcaster and was impressed of the quality... only the nut was shit and the strings too thin.
Pickups pretty decent too, but I'd swap them just for the looks.

I really wish they had different colour choices for the Affinity. The Walnut one looks beautiful.

Bigsby does not come stock, it’s the usual aftermarket Bigsby B5 / Vibramate V5 / roller bridge combo.billesq123 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 10:41 amSo cool. Did the Bigsby come with it, or did you install it? If you installed it, did it screw right into place?

Hmmm. I've just realized that the Contemporary Active model has a flat back to accommodate the access plates and battery compartment, unlike the CV and Affinity which both have arched backs.

I know it's like a bottle thrown into the sea, but does anyone has pictures of the back access routes of the Starcaster Contemporary, by any chance? I didn't like the model until I saw it in a shop yesterday... It's gorgeous in person. I don't like active pickups, though, so if I were to get one I'd change the pickups more or less quickly. But my searches have left me empty-handed...
Thanks!
Thanks!

Fender has multiple pictures on the individual model pages. Here's the back of the Contemporary Starcaster:Gordon wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 10:37 amI know it's like a bottle thrown into the sea, but does anyone has pictures of the back access routes of the Starcaster Contemporary, by any chance? Hope this is what you're looking for.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Thanks, but what I'm looking for is the inside of the routes. The body is hollow, or partially hollow, and I'm trying to figure out how it is inside (as noted by @lvc a few message above, the back is different on the Contemporary models, I don't know how much it affects the inside construction). If I was to get one and change the pickup, I'd also change the wiring with at least one extra switch.vistavision wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 5:37 pmFender has multiple pictures on the individual model pages. I guess I'd just email a shop who has them in stock and see if they'll take some photos for you and give you some info on it.
Also, just email or call Fender. I hear they're pretty chatty these days with questions like this.
