I think she should always be mentioned along the greatest guitarists of all times, because our time is a time, too... all times? She’s easily the greatest player currently active. I saw her live twice - very traditional setup, but it’s so modern at the same time! But... I‘m derailing this thread... Anna Calvi would rock one of those Starcasters for sure!

Derail complete! I’d never heard of Anna Calvi before today. Thanks for passing her name along! She’s great! I don’t know what she’d think of CV Starcasters, but I’d say she has good taste with regard to what she plays with her guitar.

This is gonna sound sacrilegious to many, but it'd be a much better looking guitar if it were differentiated from the fender models by having a different headstock. I hate that foot-looking headstock, it makes my visual pun oriented brain fill in the image with some creepy looking sweaty guy licking it.

Share my pain, people.
Yeah, I'm with you there. I feel like they could stick a big CBS headstock on just about anything and it would work for me, but it'd get stale pretty quickly!

Off the subject a little bit but the Modern Player versions can be had at a good price when you find one. I picked this one up on Saturday from the local classifieds.

Not too far off the subject really :) I wonder if these Classic Vibe Starcasters are being made in China. If so, they might be pretty much the same as the Modern Player version. I could be wrong, but I think all the Modern Player guitars were made in the same factory as the Classic Vibes.

That's what I was thinking. The neck on this and of my friend's Modern Player Telecaster have the same look and feel as the Classic Vibes I have encountered.

Didn't all new Classic Vibes have production shifted from China to Indonesia, though?

I didn’t think so. The ones made in China previously are still being made in China, right? Maybe there’s just some old stock still floating around.

EDIT: OK, I saw a picture of the back of the Classic Vibe Starcaster that said Indonesia, so that's settled I guess. Still, I do wonder about the previous Classic Vibe guitars (50s/60s Strat, Tele Thinline, Custom, 50s) and J Mascis JM. Makes sense to move everything to one place, but there was certainly a quality difference between the China and Indonesian guitars.

The new Classic Vibe series is entirely Indonesian. They are cashing in on the goodwill the MIC CV's built but are sadly not continuing production there. I'd have been a day-one CV Jaguar purchaser if they were going to be made at the same factory as the old CVs. I've had two of the 50's strats and with minimal mods they were easily as nice to play as any of my much more expensive Fenders.

So you're saying that the guitars they used to make in China (Strats, Teles, etc) are moving to Indonesia? I don't have any reason to doubt you, but I was wondering where you saw this info.

On threads at "that Telecaster forum" and "that Squier forum," there are multiple accounts of people saying Fender reps confirmed the MIC CV's are discontinued in favour of this new line. There is no more 50's or 60's strat, for example. Just the two 70's (SSS and HSS) strats, etc.

The current stock of MIC CVs are being sold, and that's it. All the new ones are made in Indonesia, and there's nothing but the new ones now. They didn't loudly proclaim the old line was done, they just introduced the new one that's replacing it.

I'd be tempted to get an Affinity Starcaster as a good option for recording with. I have no semi-hollow guitars at the moment.
