Funny enough, the band, Neurosis, actually use a Warmoth Jazzmaster with this weird sunburst finish where the black area looks like it's supposed to be a pickguard.

I have never agreed with anything so much in my life- I was more skeptical when my mother told me she loved me.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Seconded, although I think a pickguard'd ruin the stripped back vibe it's got going on.loveinathens wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 11:01 amI'd honestly take Jazzmaster-shaped anything because I hate Les Pauls, and vintage-spec or vintage-adjacent Jazzmaster models are already there for people to choose from. Pricing's a bit steep for me, and I do wish they did this like a Jazzmaster equivalent to the black Jaguar Special HH. I'd like a pickguard, but even then I don't rly hate this thing.

It is certainly a head scratcher that Fender keeps using the TOM and tailpiece of Gibson when they already have several hardtail bridge designs of their own.

Every bridge that Fender has ever made that I'm aware of is vastly superior to the Tune-O-Matic.

Perhaps Fender is going after a hip youth demographic by using the word "modern" ironically.

Hah, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way.
It's definitely an ironic use of the term "modern," as those parts are not only 1950's technology, but they all actually predate the Jazzmaster itself by a few years. A purely faithful replica '59 model would actually be a "modern" Jazzmaster compared to this.
Stay tuned for the fully-hollow Modern Jaguar with Charlie Christian pickups, ebony acoustic bridge and trapeze tailpiece, for all that rumpin' and-a tumpin' that kids want to do on their guitars these days.
(Note: I tried to throw out a mashup of WII era guitar specs and accidentally came up with something that was still more interesting than this Jazzmaster. Oops.)

I suppose you can blame ESP/LTD for this whole recent “modern” Gibson thing. After floyd roses stopped being cool, the strat shape has gone out of fashion with the metalheads.
A Les Paul with a DiMarzio sd is a glorious thing, so it doesn’t bother me. And I much prefer a Fender neck to Gibson. But then again I’m a lefty so have far fewer options and mostly have to stick to traditional models aside from heavy mods.
These are ugly guitars though, in case anyone wanted my 2 pence.

Re: New 2019 Fender Japan "Modern" Jazzmaster
I think "modern" here refers to the configuration rather than how long ago any of the parts were invented.
Even though the jazzmaster had certain innovative elements in it in comparison to a les paul, let's say, at the time, those features are now dated. A small minority likes the trem and the rhythm control , but those are more perceived as vintage and niche.

I assume by "Modern" they mean "what the metalheads play", and I'm pretty sure metalheads are still just playing dual humbucker guitars when they aren't playing some sort of Abasi monstrosity with 50 strings.
I also used to get upset about guitars that I'm never going to buy, but it does get tiring after a while, and I think we're kidding ourselves if we really think these don't appeal to anyone out there. Probably more so than a regular Jazzmaster.

I wondered same. I have the Aerodyne bass and Tele. I am very happy to own them. I am a big fan of the MIJs. I like the craftsmanship and style.alexpigment wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 12:41 pmI wonder why they didn't just call these "Aerodyne" Jazzmasters. Seems like a direct continuation of that series.

Well, I just like it. I don't care where the design ideas came from- although that might be patent right issue. I'm "crazy bout" my Aerodyne bass and Aerodyne Tele.
