Fender Japan Modern Series
Fender Japan have just launched these - not my thing, but someone will like it! It's a black, kind of aerodyne Jazzmaster HH. I can't post images with my lousy ICT skills, so the The ishibashi link is -

Quite weird as the grey and white versions look a lot like the Squier Modern Jms writ large.

You're right - those pickups really do need a ring!

They re-invented the Charvel Skatecaster.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

I feel like this popped up on the forum a little while ago. They're basically MIJ Jim Root Jazzmasters, another take on, "how much like a Gibson can we make a Jazzmaster?"
And yes, PAFs need rings, like how strat pickups look insane without a guard or rings.

I actually prefer these as they are, ie without pickup rings.

They'd be more attractive to me if they weren't so expensive.

Reminds me of Jim Root's Jazzmasters.
