Player Series Jaguar

Post by goldenrory » Tue Oct 29, 2019 1:50 pm

So, I decided to dive into the offset world.

Recently got a Player Series Jaguar, in tidepool blue.

What can I say? beautiful instrument in deed! but as I was warned, the bridge soon became sort of a nightmare. The little screws on the saddles get loose frecuently, and the consecuent rattle that gives me lots of anoying buzz.

I'm waiting for my BuzzStop (just purchased one, on the way) and I'm looking foward to put it there.

I'll give you my impressions after! any advice on this subject is welcome.

Salutes

My solution was a Mustang bridge. Fewer moving parts = less noise. Of course, then you have a mismatch with the neck radius. It's not a problem for me, but others may disagree. I don't think a buzz stop should be necessary, I didn't even have to shim the neck on mine.

Loctite blue or purple.

I own 4 Jazzmasters and have owned a Jag at one point. I have never had this problem. It is weird that it is common.

Have you tried heavier strings? The Jaguar has a short scale and needs more tension.

I don’t think Buzz-Stops make much of a difference, esp. if the bridge isn’t set up right to begin with. Loctite works for obvious reasons but I’ve never needed it - just make sure the grub screws are tightened evenly so you don’t wind up with a ‘dangling’ screw that can further unscrew or rattle. If that doesn’t help, there are a few other tricks you can google on this forum (off-hand, raising the saddle height and lowering the overall bridge height helps, so does using longer or stiffer intonation springs help ‘lock’ the saddles in place.

I also agree- I’m puzzled this is a common problem, unless the bridge setup is just terrible. But I’m not surprised if a lot of guitars go out of the factory with terrible setups I suppose. I’ve only had one bridge (Squier) out of maybe a dozen that had random screws loosen enough to rattle. I’d almost say OP should just pick up a new US bridge.

I know they are expensive - but a Mastery bridge and Tremolo are well worth the cost - my Jazzmaster is now unbelievably wonderful.

I have had this problem on every Jaguar and Jazzmaster I own without a TOM. I think that's about 7 guitars. The latest bridge they've put into production takes care of the low E falling out during spirited play, but makes more noise than the traditional bridge. It totally sucks.

these are such cool guitars, congrats!! and yeah, i’d say triple check that it isn’t just a setup issue and then maybe just move on to a mustang bridge? it’s a similar sounding bridge, slightly different but would fix the issues you’re experiencing.

Thanks for your comments!

I´ll try some of your suggestions. As I mentioned before I´m new in the offset world, so every advice is welcome.

Congrats on the jag! I have the same and love it. I put 11's on but did switch to a stock new mustang bridge because of rattling. I will try the original again soon with some of the advice above if i get the time but no complaints from the mustang bridge at all

I think there are at least 4 of us here with the Tidepool version. The burst was a slow seller in my area.

I originally wanted a burst but choice at the time was limited to tidepool or the red one which i thought was too bright. I do think the tidepool looks savage with the black plate and maple neck :-*

I am in love with the tidepool finish. I was planning on grabbing the player jag in that color until the pink one caught my eye.

I agree that the red one has a little too much bright, it looked like a cheap guitar in that color to me. Tidepool looks awesome!

I´ll try the 11´s for sure! I guess that might reduce the rattling a little bit?
