Fender Custom Shop Electric XII
Now that we've got our Electric XII reissue, check this guy out:
https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/li ... 7/28429629
Recreated by a new master builder, since they didn't have any blueprints or diagrams. They noted that the radius was changed, the headstock reversed, and a different color used. But what really caught my eye was the bridge - this one looks like a legit old school one where all 12 strings go through the body. Compared to the reissue, which is the Gotoh (or Gotoh-style) 6 through and 6 on top. I'd always heard that it was too difficult or expensive to tool a 12 through style. I'm curious what the deal is here. Though, I guess when you're asking $9k...

Awesome. I figure how hard could getting the bridge right be- at one point even MIJ Fender tooled it up for Squiers and Strat XIIs, so why not the modern XII too? Really a lot of ‘Leo’ design on that hardware. Again, happy to see they decided to use it at least once more even at that price.

Surely they could have sourced symmetrical tuning heads?

More proof I just cannot tell good tort from ‘bad’ tort and mostly don’t care. As long as it’s not ketchup MIJ tort, I don’t mind it (or- it looks equally ugly. Tort is meant to be ugly and only used out of irony right? )

Carlos Lopez also did this Marauder II for shits-and-giggles (from what I can tell).
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Man... for 9K that is so hideous. I don't dig the paint, the tort, or the reverse headstock! But, it isn't mine so I shouldn't complain. Just seems like for that much they eat it and buy you a spitfire factory new.
Not to shamelessly plug my XII I assembled for almost a tenth of the cost: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... p?t=109635 but it seems like other than the correct string/body design it doesn't even have nice figured wood... But different strums for different bums. Glad to see this is being offered, though. I hope they do a tele acoustasonic 12 string version.

Man, N0_Camping4U, that's a beauty right there.
Last year, I bought the Strat XII, thinking they'd never do an Electric XII. Hpoefully the trend keeps up and they'll do a Tele XII next year. The one I put together many years ago has issues, and I'm really loving the Electric XII over it.

Re: Fender Custom Shop Electric XII
I don't really hold this against Fender Custom Shop. Like... if you really want a unique new Fender Custom Shop XII Master Built guitar... they will do it for you, but it means you're kind of a dope in terms of paying a serious premium. Without too much effort and a lot less money you can assemble a replica-- or you can buy a vintage one for less. Either way you will get a better tort guard.
Obviously my perspective is skewed. I really do like my FCS master built Jaguar. In 2008 it cost about the same as what a 100% vintage custom color Jag would cost. I have never been happier with any other guitar; the premium I paid has been totally worth it (and I swapped out the gross tort that came with it).

The tort on that Marauder is also criminally bad, but it fits the overall funky look a little better.
