'04 CIJ Mustang in Nashville tuning soundclips
Hi, let's try again. I tried to post this, but something happened.
I've been playing a majority of my playing recently with '04 CIJ Mustang that's in Nashville tuning (E-A-D-G octave higher). I recorded some clips with the Helix with few external effects:

https://soundcloud.com/hemaambient/litt ... r-noodling
I really like the tuning and I'd think it would work great in band setting with two electrics so separate the tones. Some chords sound a bit like 12 string guitar. And yes I like verb and delay/ambient tones.

That sounds really good. I keep an acoustic in Nashville tuning, but it didn't occur to me to put an electric in that tuning. But your clips sound great, maybe I'll give that some thought.

If you are interested in it, D'Addario makes set meant for it: It's: XL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar String Set 10-26 Nashville Tuning EXL150H.
I'm not sure if other manufacturers have something similiar.

Thanks for the heads up! Maybe I'll put an infrequently played guitar in Nashville. Or maybe this is an excuse to buy yet another guitar.Kihtaristi wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 7:08 amIf you are interested in it, D'Addario makes set meant for it: It's: XL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar String Set 10-26 Nashville Tuning EXL150H.

David Gilmour of Pink Floyd changed the Nashville tuning a little bit by removing the octave low E and replacing it with another high E, so both E strings are high Es instead of the wound one in the low register.
I always meant to give that a try some day.

I'm huge Gilmour fan even though I play different stuff. One of the best gigs, I've been was Gilmour at stuttgart jazz (maybe 2016, but not sure)

My understanding is that it is the guitar you hear on "Hey You", which is probably the most clear example. I don't know if he might have used it in other recordings in the more usual method of doubling the main acoustic part in standard tuning, though. But on "Hey You" you can really hear the Nashville strung guitar solo.
It's a cool sound. Oh, and he also plays the fretless bass on that track, between the Nashville strung guitar and the fretless you have some pretty cool sounds you don't always hear.

OP - I just wanted to pop in to tip my hat in thanks for posting about this. I'd nearly all but forgotten about this and your samples were the perfect tipping point - so many thanks. Without that, I may not have been motivated to string up my Jag in Nashville tuning.
I wasn't sure which guitar to use - it was between the Jag and my Sheraton, for that big, woody sound... but I went with the Jag and I'm glad I did. It's a dead-quiet guitar and the tonal range is much greater than the Sheraton. I did the parallel/series mod on the Jag and didn't think much of it in standard tuning - but with the Nashville tuning, it might just be my favourite sound. Once all the crazy fizzles away and we can get back to recording, I'm looking forward to doing some overdubs with this setup.
So again - many thanks!

Haven't heard an electric in Nashville tuning in a little while, I think it sounds absolutely great. For someone with the stupid number of guitars I have, I should really string one of them in Nashville and see what happens!

For $6 and no modification req'd - unless you want to get picky and cut a new nut (which I may do later on down the road, if this proves as useful a tool as it seems) - it really is a no-brainer. It's a beautiful tuning to play in. I feel like songs and bits of other existing songs have just been falling out of this guitar since yesterday.

I used to own a Wechter guitar that was designed explicitly for use in Nashville tuning, I forget now but they made a lot of what they did.
It was an unexceptional guitar basically, so I sold it. Still, I thought that you would have to do some pretty serious conversion to get a guitar ready for Nashville tuning.
Then I just slapped on Nashville strings onto my Martin D-1, and it's just fine. Sounds great. I can't imagine I'll do anything else to it.
On an electric guitar it would be even easier. Don't worry about the nut.

Sold. I'll have to order a set the next time I order some strings.

Yep. The nut slots on my Jag are significantly wider than the strings (it went from having 11s on it), but there's absolutely no buzz or funny stuff going on.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 5:28 amI used to own a Wechter guitar that was designed explicitly for use in Nashville tuning, I forget now but they made a lot of what they did.
