Re: Olympic White Japanese Jazzmaster
Looks like a winner! Personally I don’t find the JM pickups excessively noisy, but of course I’ve only worked on a handful and
I invariably copper tape the routes and the pick guard on every single coil guitar I work on as SOP. I’ve also built up a tolerance for hiss over a lifetime of analog live music making, I’m not a Luddite but I’ve never found a recording method that does not strip the soul out of every note, maybe white noise in the mix is what I equate with life. You guys make me think too much.

Totally! It distracts me when I move the guitar and the hum goes in and out.

Re: Olympic White Japanese Jazzmaster
The Revel humbuckers arrived today. I asked Jesse to make them sound as close to a Gibson 57 set as possible. He put them together and asked me if I wanted to bump the bridge output a bit since normally they would be about the same on a PAF humbucker set. (That tends to make the neck pickup louder than the bridge.) I said that would be cool since I kinda like when the neck and bridge have a similar volume level.
I got them installed pretty easily. Didn't have to remove any wood. The neck pickup is about flush with the neck height and I tried to get the bridge about the same space from the guitar strings.
The pickups sound amazing. Really awesome. The bridge it bright, but not thin. It has good bottom end too. The neck is nice and full without being muddy. I am super pleased with the set. Here are pictures and a sound demo. https://youtu.be/Dv0LO9CbKmQ

The mint never seemed to go well with this guitar because it is too yellowed so I decided to do a guard swap.
Just waiting on pickups.

Antiquity I's. They contrast my Antiquity II's nicely. I am also curious what they sound like in a stock normal Jazzy since the only in person experience I have is with 500k pots in my green Jazzy.

This makes me wonder what the hell color I had when I had my CIJ Jazzmaster. I could see the grain through the paint, but it doesn't seem like you can in yours through those pics. So maybe I had a vintage blonde, and not an oly white. Sadly my ebay purchase history doesn't go back 12 years.

It was probably a blonde.

Re: Olympic White Japanese Jazzmaster Finished Pg. 2
Put the Mascis P90's in. I am really happy other than the neck pickup output is like half as loud as the bridge. Something funky is up with it, but middle and bridge sound nice so I don't care too much. I kind of want to get a different neck pickup, but keep the bridge. I also want a 52mm mustang bridge for it. Color wise, I am WAY happier. I found out the color is actually vintage white not oly like it was sold to me. (I figured it was since it was more custard in color, but it was stamped VWH in the pocket so I know for sure now.)

Re: Olympic White Japanese Jazzmaster Finished Pg. 2
The neck pickup had a short or something so I swapped the pickups for Antiquity I pickups. It sounds good. More treble than the II's, but usable. I can see why some people drop to 500k or 250k with them. They are pretty bright. Nothing wrong with a little variety!

That looks great! I like how the pickup covers and knobs match the body and contrast against the pickguard.
