I surrender

Post by mysticguitar » Wed Jun 24, 2020 5:41 am

I surrender to the fact that my old Hobbit hands have to work extra hard to play my Tele, after telling myself for years this is the guitar I should be playing, I like the tone, but since I only have a limited time left on the planet for practicing, I ordered a Vintera Mustang, wish me luck and I hope I can improvise, play bends, on it....I really want this guitar to work.

Good luck! Those are great guitars and I doubt you'll be disappointed with it.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

What's the problem with the tele?

Boy I hope not, I'm looking forward to getting it but if it doesn't work out musciansfriend has a 45 day return policy which gives me plenty of time to try and bond with the guitar, I told them I have not played vintage specs before and their cool with me returning it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Tele, I love the tone, but there is something wrong with me...with old and small hands, I'm 5' 6", it's just to much work to play....they say if you practice enough, even with small hands, you can play well on a 25.5 scale. That maybe be true but I don't have a lot of time left on this earth, and I need a guitar that's easier to play so I can progress faster and be less frustrated, even if I have to sacrifice some tone. I'll put the Tele up for sale on reverb in a few days.

If there's nothing wrong with it why not get a perfect Neck? They make a jillion different sizes.. I'm sure there's one that's perfect for you...

No shame in that at all.

Unless you absolutely need the money to pay for the Mustang, why not try smaller gauge strings if the tension is too high. If the neck is too big, replacing the neck MIGHT work, but at the point, half the guitar has been changed so you may as well just go with a new guitar that IS a joy to play.

Life is short and playing guitar should be a fun, leisurely activity. Hope the Mustang treats you well!

Well...I need a short scale, that's not possible on a Tele is it?

.

Warmoth or someplace was making conversion necks. They will give full details on how the magic works.

You could get a Squier Strat neck which have a lot of wood removed from the rear shoulders of the neck and put that on your Tele.

Look into the Strat Mini models as there were a few models like the Hannah Montana Disney Washburn Tele from a decade ago that was scaled just as if you'd put a capo on the second fret of a regular full sized Tele (I picked a beat up example for $10 to strip, re-contour, and convert to a travel guitar). I suspect the Strat Mini uses that same neck spec so that swapping necks may be just as simple as changing the bolts and strings and tuning up.

There's a new Squier offset Jazzmaster Mini now, too. Here's a bit about them.

Well, if I don't bond with the Vintera it's nice to know there are other alternatives, thanks.

Fender had a 24" scale Tele in the Modern Player series that came out around 2014. They were made in China, by the same factory that made the old Squier Classic Vibe series if I'm not mistaken. I've never played one but my Classic Vibe 50s Strat was quite amazing in terms of quality.

Image

Not sure if that would float your boat as it's pretty non-traditional (as everything else in the MP series), but they do pop up on Reverb from time to time.

The Tele sounds interesting.... I'll keep an eye out, thanks.

there's more to it than the scale, i bet.
teles and mustangs hang differently. On mine, there's a difference in reach when playing first position stuff.

I think telecasters are the perfect instrument, an amazing first stab that has stood the test of like 80 years.
Mine however, hasn't left it's case in months.
right now, what works is a Jaguar
(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.
