NGD 62 reissue Jazzmaster Sherwood Green with matching headstock. What do I have??
Ok, I’ve lurked here long enough to know this is the place to come for the answer I seek. I purchased a “62 American Vintage Jazzmaster in Sherwood Green with matching headstock 2000” from Chicago Music Exchange through Reverb. It was listed for less than 24 hours and I knew I had to have it. I snagged it and figured I’d ask questions later. Sherwood green, matching headstock? No brainer. Serial (V151586) comes back to a deluxe strat AND a 62 reissue jaguar. Called Fedner they said maybe it was part of the export only runs. I’ve emailed fender Japan but nothing yet. So... I know there was the Yamano run but I’ve never seen or heard of any Sherwood Yamanos. What do you guys think??

I think it's a beauty. Beyond that, IDK.

A fairly rare colour, and only available in the early days of the run.
Looks like the decal has been buried under clear coat, rather than sitting on top of the finish - Which would suggest that someone has refinished the headstock. Headstock also seems to be a slightly different shade of green (though this could be an effect of the lighting in the photos).

"I don't know why we asked him to join the band 'cause the rest of us don't like country music all that much; we just like Graham Lee."

The headstock is definitely darker and the decal has an h in synchronized. So I can see it as being refinished. Then there’s the non matching serial...andy_tchp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 2:29 pmA fairly rare colour, and only available in the early days of the run.

I’m about to take it apart. I’ll report back later.

Thanks man! This is one I’ve been wanting for sooooo long.Stephen_42 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 3:08 pmSeconded. Sherwood Green is - by a very long way - the best finish Fender do. Even better with a matching headstock. Congratulations and enjoy!

Doesn’t look like a Yamano to me. I’m almost 100% sure that wasn’t one of the colors they did. I’ve owned a Shell pink yamano Jazzmaster and an Ice Blue Yamano Jag. Both also had the decal over the clear. I’m guessing it’s AVRI with a refin’d the headstock.

I saw that one too. What a killer guitar! How is the neck? Thick or thin? Nut width?
Yeah like someone else noted; it seems that the logo decal was lacquered with a clear coat afterwards.

Thin C. 1.64” or 41.7mm at the nut. She sounds great. About to pop the neck.

my 62 AVRI had a serial # close to that. v147 But I don't remember the AVRIs having matching head stocks. The Thin Skins did.

Re: NGD 62 reissue Jazzmaster Sherwood Green with matching headstock. What do I have??
It looks like a genuine Sherwood AVRI62 body from 2000 (I have one), but the headstock is 100% a refinish (decal with the misspelling is a dead giveaway, the fact they did not make any AVRI62s in Sherwood with a matching headstock is another dead giveaway) and they did not make any Yamanos in Sherwood green. The serial number plate is NOT original to the body either, Sherwoods were only made in 1999-2000, and the serials only range from V11 ~V12, but definitely not V15 which would date to 2003~2005. Yamano serials were all around V129XXX, by the way.

Well the date stamps look to fit exactly with that. Looks like an AVRI with refinished headstock and replaced neck plate.
Either way it’s gorgeous!!!!

Your eye for details always amaze me. So I went and looked at the headstock close up...what is misspelled?sunburster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 7:42 pmIt looks like a genuine Sherwood AVRI62 body from 2000 (I have one), but the headstock is 100% a refinish (decal with the misspelling is a dead giveaway, the fact they did not make any AVRI62s in Sherwood with a matching headstock is another dead giveaway) and they did not make any Yamanos in Sherwood green.
