Lavaguards are Legit
Well, thanks Paolo_ray for ridding my CS Jazzmaster of the, frankly embarrassing, excuse for tort that it came with.
The pictures can do the talking. I tried to get all the different shades in the light...

Tort is a good thing for citizens (look into anti-tort laws, and the nightmare it makes for working class)
Tort is also a great thing for guitars. A tort as good as yours anyways.
So you could say I like tort. lol And tarts.

Holy
Fucking
Shit
That looks exactly like, like the REAL shit. That is seriously, seriously great looking tort. Spitfire stuff is pretty and has depth but has this kinda trait that I can’t even accurately describe, it’s almost like I can see where paint brushes were used in parts of it, I dunno, there’s always something that kinda takes me out of it, but this stuff looks just like it’s out of the 60s to my eyes.
None of this is meant to be shitty toward Spitfire but he’s like the only other game in town so it’s really exciting to see more options coming around. I couldn’t be more excited about this!

I know exactly what you mean. Spitfire is great, and the range of options he has is ridiculous, but for sometimes it's a little bit too 'extra' if that makes sense? I've not seen one in the flesh, admittedly, so wont pass full judgement as many many people absolutely love his work - and rightly so.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:01 pmHoly

I wanted a guard that looked 'correct' on the guitar and Paolo_Ray had the goods - and in the UK. I couldn't be happier. It even *feels* a bit like old tort hahah

Re: Lavaguards are Legit
Yeah, DONT get me wrong, I’ve owned a bunch of Spitfire guards, and was obsessed with it for a long time, and the level of customization he offers is awesome from a customer’s POV and until now there was nothing that came even remotely close to his work, let alone to actual tort from way back.
But the combination of a 150/250% price increase over the past few years and that not coming with the output looking progressively more like the old stuff and other options coming into existence that DO look more like the old stuff and happen to be priced at a significantly more accessible cost, yeah I could understand if it’s not someone’s ideal situation.
And RE: a little much - yeah, honestly the more yellow patches the cooler in my eyes, or the new burst thing, really really cool looking stuff. It’s its own thing though

I echo mechanical bird’s sentiments. I almost went with spitfire for my build, but right around that time Paolo_ray emerged with these. I’m very satisfied with the look of mine.

Re: Lavaguards are Legit
yep - i had the exact same experience. could not be happier with my purchase. it even shipped here to the states in a reasonable time frame from the UK. paul was easy to communicate / do business with, and to my eyes the tort looks vintage correct (have only owned one vintage guitar in my life so far).
some things you unbox and you just immediately have a sense that it is high quality, and i can def. say my Lavaguard was one of those. the mint layer in the guard, i think is particularly well done and looks way better than all the other stuff out there on the market. i've tried a lot of tort - WD, Terrapin, Fender pure vintage, and neagle.
anyway i hope he will keep churning these out so i can buy another

Those custom colours are all very lovely, but I know this is what you’ve all been waiting for ....
Just kidding and want to echo what others have said, Paul is a pleasure to deal with and I wish him all the best.
