Well, the financial Gods clearly are intent on assisting me in ravaging my bank balance on a consistent basis, because the guy was going to the Northampton Guitar show, which I was working, so after he very kindly put it on hold for me, I now have one!
It's essentially an AV58- flash coat nitro finish, Ash body, 'clay' dots and side markers. From an old thread on here, it seems that though the spec sheet said PV65 pickups, they're actually not (bevelled pole pieces, different bobbin colour, different output). I don't know if they're the same as the AVRI range, or made for this model alone, but I'll tell myself it's the latter to make it all feel a little more special. They sound really good- the neck pickup is outstanding, and after I shimmed the bridge pickup they now balance really well.
It's very, very resonant (as is my AV65 also tbf), and also light (as is my AV65 again), and the neck is bloody wonderful. The Mastery trem and Staytrem bridge really top it all off. I've never been tempted by the Mastery stuff, but it does feel very nice.
I'm fortunate now to own 3 AV65s- JM, Jag and Strat, and a Marrguar which I guess is kinda a AV62 in essence (or 65 w/o binding?), and with this in there now I feel like I've honestly got the best iteration of all of those now. I absolutely love the AV series. I bought this to mark a bit of a personal milestone (1 year off booze and other bad things), so it feels a bit more significant than the usual purchase. Those, along with my '62ri Custom Tele, and 2 very nice nitro Tokai LPs (Silverburst Custom and '56 Goldtop w/ P90s), I genuinely feel like I might actually have no desire to buy anything else for a long while. Thankfully that won't be hard as I'm now broke anyway ha.
Apologies for the shite picture, will get some more soon. It's got a nice amount of wear on it and I look forward to thrashing it even more. Anyone else got one of these?
