True dat! My avri jm is like 3 months old and the back is already scratched to hell from my belt, and there's a small chip right through to the wood on the top side, don't even know how that happened!

OOOHHHHH!  Is that why all the cool rock 'n roll kids are wearing their belts off to the side on their hip?  ;D

Would love to see what people’s Thin Skins look like now, in 2019. Genuinely surprised at how little their aging has been documented considering the finish was a big sell with so many people.

A truly drool worthy Jaguar in my absolute favorite custom color :?

Be sure to smoke plenty of cigarettes around it to promote a nice patina!

I second this.

My 2002 ice blue metallic AVRI Jaguar has turned to a lovely shade of green/blue that really comes out in natural sunlight.

These pictures don't even quite do it justice, but you kind of get the idea viewtopic.php?f=6&t=110622

I remember you making that thread! Shame that the finish got that way how it did, but you got an amazing deal and essentially it’s just a jumpstart on whatever reliving you or anybody else might want.

it's actually funny, I opened this thread. I can't believe it's been 10+ years! Let me know if you have specific questions.
I still own the guitar. It's amazing and looks great. I wouldn't say it's the best guitar I've ever played but it's close. The guitar has been played frequently, but since work and kids keep me busy I'm not able to play it very often.

This pic is from 2010. The finish still looks about the same as in the pic. As you can see it has been exposed to sunlight and faded a fair bit:

The finish is pretty sensitive Compared to a poly CIJ Jag I once owned. I'm usually carefull with my guitars and I have to say this one dents and dings easily.

It will take me a few days, but I'll post a few more up to date pics when I get a chance.

That’d be great, thanks! Looks like it’s Ice Blue as opposed to LPB from that picture. Mostly curious about checking. I’ve heard that spraying canned air on the thing will help that happen super fast but zero chance I’d ever be comfortable enough to try it myself. I wanted a Thin Skin so it would age along with me but ever since I got it it’s really hard to be even remotely careless enough to actually affect the finish. I have a weird section of ceiling in my room that’s angled so a few times ended up smacking the headstock into said cieling or bumped the butt into a wall while going down stairs but I can’t find any new marks on the guitar at all. Pretty weird.

My 2008 '59 Thin Skin Blonde looks identical to when I bought it. I haven't had the pickguard off, but it hasn't yellowed noticeably at all.

I recently traded for an 08 Thin Skin Jag in Seafoam Green. I swapped pickguards when I changed strings and didn't notice any fading. Maybe it happens to a greater extent with the metallic finishes.

:-* lovely guitars! congrats, thanks for sharing the pics!

as promised some recent pics of mine.

Pic #1 -
Image

Pic #2 - it is almost impossible to capture the hue of the color correctly. I guess the finish can be best described as some sort of turquoise now. I'm not able to get accurate shots. As a reference, the pickguard should be mint green in the shot, but as you can see it's,slightly off in color. I took the vol/tone control plate off, so you can see the original finish. On mine I can now confirm there was a lot of yellowing in the first years but almost none in the last 6 years.
Image

Pic #3 - shows how sensitive the finsih is (aka thin skin ;) ). There are a couple of those marks like the ones in the bottom left hand corner on the guitar
Image

Pic #4 - something's going on with the finish where I usually rest my arm when playing. Maybe it just needs some good polishing ;) . Also it seems like the grain is showing through slightly in this area. No checking on mine though.
Image

Pic #5 - shims the guitar came with (0.08 inch / 2mm)
Image

still loving it, and thanks to the thread I gave it a good new setup and plays like a charm now :-) .

Wooooow. Looks great. But that's a lot of yellowing. Gotta say poly has it's advantages
