Offset Hollow/semi-hollow body guitars

Post by MasterCapn » Sun Jul 27, 2008 2:14 pm

I want to find a offset hollow/semi-hollow body guitar other than a starcaster because they're 1) hard to find 2) very expensive when you do find one.  Are there any alternatives to the starcaster out there.  I don't care if they also cost alot I just want to know what other offset hollow/semi-hollow body guitars are out there.

Les paul signatures I know there are gibsons and epiphones sorta offset, and rickenbackers 330/360 might be what you want as well.

I can see how the les paul sigs might  be considered offset but the ricks aren't that offset are they?  I mean if they're offset then doesn't that also make strats offset too?  I kinda like the jag/jm bottom curve style like on starcasters.  I was wondering if they're are any others like that, cause I've been searching and haven't found anything yet but I did see someone in a magazine once with something that look like it.

No, they're not offset, the angle of the waist (smallest part, like on an hourglass or corset) is not strong enough.

Offset hollow bodies are like the Hopf Saturns (and the Eastwood reissue), Charvel Surfcasters, several Framus models and various others, mainly German and Japanese guitars, but not only.

Is that the same guy who made those guitars for Trey Anastasio from Phish? That was someone else, wasn't it?

Framus Hollywood

The vintage model (Atlantik) it's based on is much cooler looking, but the Hollywood is in production.

:)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Sorry to say, but that Eastwood Saturn RI is not a nice guitar imo. Played one a while ago and I was like :wtf:...It felt toyish. I'm a huge fan of Cheesy guitars, but this one...Not.
I think it was arround €600-ish.  And the JM/Jag trem looks just plain wrong on these. The originals however :? :?

My solution, a cheap 90ties Kimaxe. (Surfcaster knock off) Currently being rebuild to a Long scale Jaguar....

The main difference between most of those guitars and the Starcaster as far as the body is concerned, is that the bodies are just smaller. I think the Starcaster is 16" wide like a Gibson ES335 (correct me if I am wrong), while the others are just smaller (except perhaps for the Teisco Firebird). The Saturn seems somewhat bigger than most, but still smaller than a Starcaster.
