;D That's messed up in a cool way. I like the idea of making it jazzmaster-ized, but if you do so, make sure you use silver sparkle

Somebody posted a more-or-less comprehensive list of the differences between the different Squier Jagmasters somewhere and now I can't find it.  :-[  Anybody remember where that was?

I didn't look for it, but I can give you a run-down:

1996-1997:  Vista Series. (Japan) 24" scale.

1998 -2000: None

2000 - 2004:  Standard Series (China) 25.5" scale,  later ones had two point trem

2005 - Present:  Vintage Modified Series (China) 24" scale using standard body and conversion neck (not compatible with normal 24" neck)

Dates are approximate

Hope this helps!

ahhh yes, i was wondering why my one had a vintage-style trem, but christopher's had the 2-point one.

I have one,i dont use it much but its okay, its the modern 24'',i put a DiMarzio PAF in the bridge,a Jaguar pup in the neck,Vintage  type strat bridge, cts pots and some nos caps.
I have it tuned weird and its not exactly sparkly in sound,it has a percussive note quality to it,sounds good and there isnt actually anything wrong with it tho.It sits in the corner awaiting another sticker to be added, yeah, its become a billboard for any and every sticker i find as the PG is awful.

By far i think the best cheapest guitars are epiphone, squire knecks kinda suck.

Does this mean you can put a 25.5 neck on the modern jagmasters?
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

I believe so. From what I've read, the necks are definitely NOT interchangeable with the original 24" neck. The bodies are the same "standard" bodies from the 25.5" run.

I think the reason for the return to the 24" scale was to revitalize the line which was dying... by trying to invoke the  original vista model. The original used a 24" MIJ Jaguar neck.  The 25.5" model used the existing Squier Standard Strat neck....  so the old necks could be used up on Strats. The bodies could be used up by making a new conversion  24" neck.

Why tool up to produce a new body AND a new neck in China.... when you can just make a neck to use with an existing body? At least that's my theory as to why this happened.

To sum it up, I'm sure of the dimensions. But the "why" part of it is speculation on my part.

EDIT to add: I just looked at a picture of the new Jag II... the 24" neck has 21 frets,  not 22 like the vista 24" necks (and the original Jag and Mustang necks).

I had been lamenting that I couldn't get a 25.5 scale Jagmaster in sunburst, but I got the chance to play one the other night and decided that I didn't like the feel of it.  It's thin like a Squier Strat and I love the thickness of my Jazzmaster.  I actually prefer Epiphone SGs to the Gibsons, if you can believe it, for the same reason.  But I was curious about that neck issue.  I've just recently learned about conversion necks and I'm still fuzzy on how they work.
The pickups, by the way, in that Jagmaster I tried sounded fantastic!!  Just thought I'd add that... :D

THe person who said they are hit and miss are right on, so far I've played 2 of the new 24" scale ones, and I got stuck buying the less desirable one...the trem was having trouble staying in tune for some odd reason.

So I've been using it for a lot of Van-Halen and RATT and other whammy intensive big-hair stuff, and so far that seems to be fixing it's trem, apparently there's some burrs or something inside the holes for the screws.  If I can't get it perfect, I'm tempted to put a Wilkinson, Floyd, or an aftermarket strat  trem like my mutt strat has (if I had the space to get power tool's I'd just fill it in, repaint it foam green, and put a Jazzmaster trem on there).

The pickups are'nt bad though, actually, mine seems to have a case of "teh kurtdz" it's very loud, articulate, but sounds very much like Kurt's Jaguar on the 91' tour tonewise no matter what I run it through.  Hmmm......mebbe' that's why it's trem ain't happy....It wants to go grunge.

So then that's why I pimped it out to give it more of a Nirvana/Quasi-Gibsonish look with trim rings.  It's kinda got a Nirvana meets Gibson Firebird type look to it.
