jagmaster? neck conversion help
so i hear that the third gen jagmaster has a conversion neck?
can you go buy a jagmaster off the shelf and put a standard long scale neck (25) as opposed to (24) from what i understand a conversion neck means that the body is long scale routed yet the neck compensates with less or more frets to make it short scale with out moving the routes.
does this work ? i do not have the funds to get a vista or second gen jagmaster, but want the long scale jagmaster

Re: jagmaster? neck conversion help
You are correct, a modern Jagaster with a conversion neck will be able to use a 25.5" scale neck. The dimension from the bridge to neck pocket is set up as 25.5" scale, hence the need to use a conversion neck (or full scale neck).

ok thank you for the answer it seems odd that they would use a conversion neck wouldnt that be more expensive than just a standard size neck

Re: jagmaster? neck conversion help
I think Fender went to the conversion neck to claim 24" scale again. The jagmaster was supposed to be a mix of jazzy and Jag, hence the name. The concept was Jag neck, jazzy body, humbuckers, and strat trem. The 2nd gen jagmaster went to a 25.5 neck which negated any Jag-ness about the guitar... the name didn't make sense anymore imo! So 3rd gen jagmasters went back to 24" scale with a conversion neck, which at least tries to have a key Jag feature in the mix! Just my theory!

Re: jagmaster? neck conversion help
Does that mean one of these conversion necks could go on a strat and turn it into a 24" scale and still intonate???

Yes, exactly right. I've been looking for a Jagmaster neck to turn my Strat into 24" scale but I don't think people like to part them out

Warmoth does a gibby scale conversion neck. Not what you're looking for, but maybe worth taking a flyer on?TheBurbz wrote:Yes, exactly right. I've been looking for a Jagmaster neck to turn my Strat into 24" scale but I don't think people like to part them out

Re: jagmaster? neck conversion help
Yeah, this is going to be my 'plan B'. I used to have a Jagmaster and loved the neck on it, I'm a smallish guy so 24" suits me best but I very much doubt I'll ever find a Jagmaster neck for sale. Unless I buy a Jagmaster, fit it with a full scale neck and then keep the shorter neck...it's a lot of trouble to go to thoughblueavenger wrote:Warmoth does a gibby scale conversion neck. Hhmmm those warmoth necks are quite expensive and I've heard enough about them to be a bit wary about putting my money that way. I'm also in the UK so the import cost alone makes this a heavy idea. I'd love to get my hand on a couple of conversion neck at some point in the next 6 months for a strat and a strat-a-like i own. Preferably with a small nut midth too! Wasn't there a member here who made conversion necks too?

Re: jagmaster? neck conversion help
i mean looking around on ebay you could probably get a "project" jagmaster for fairly cheap and just keep the body lying around while you use the conversion neck. im very wary of short scale neck as i play several different different bands, and i can just tune down to get the slinky feel but you cant very much tighten up a short scale guitar. plus i have huge hands and am pretty big so it feels toyish

Hey Burbz,
You got the right idea. Just buy a 24" scale Jagmaster, swap the necks with your Strat and you'll be left with a short scale Strat and a full scale Jagmaster, which you could in turn sell, but I bet you'd wanna keep it

You have to get the newest version of the jagmaster. The vista series with a true 24'' scale wouldn't work. The second series had a 25.5" neck.Red Jazzmaster wrote:Hey Burbz,

so make sure you get the right one.

I have a search saved on my ebay for a cheap "project" jagmaster. They just don't exist my friend.jmxxx wrote:i mean looking around on ebay you could probably get a "project" jagmaster for fairly cheap and just keep the body lying around while you use the conversion neck. im very wary of short scale neck as i play several different different bands, and i can just tune down to get the slinky feel but you cant very much tighten up a short scale guitar. plus i have huge hands and am pretty big so it feels toyish
For a slow selling Squier, the used jagmaster seems to sell for a decent price. It's very difficult to find a cheap beater.

Re: jagmaster? neck conversion help
I found one on the Chicago craigslist today. Not a beater by any stretch from the looks of it. It's the most current 24" version and the guy only wants $150 for it. I got mine for that and they don't seem to sell for any less than that anywhere.
