Johnny Marr Sig Jaguar

Having moved from a Rickenbacker 330 to a Marr myself, there is definitely some sonic overlap (if not tons).
I've found that the Marr Jaguar really seems to work best with a compressor, more so than any other 6 string I've played, and a compressor seems to goose it more into Rickenbacker territory. (I'm using a Diamond comp, which feels like a perfect match with comp at 9 o'clock and both tone and volume at noon).

+1 for this / these settings with the Marr, though admittedly I went the budget route and use a Mooer Yellow Comp. I'd like to try a Diamond one of these days!

I don't know my way around compressors on a circuit/design level, but I really like whatever the Diamond one does with the Marr, giving it more focus and heft, but seems natural / doesn't squash things at lower comp settings.

I've a Boss CP-1x that I like / can be nice and subtle, too, but there's something about the Mooer that's surprisingly just so.

Question- how come none of the Marr Jags I’ve ever seen have lacquer checking? All my other, less utilised, AV models have it on the headstocks at the very least…

My Marr wouldn't check, but the finish sure would chip!

Yeah mine is beat to fuck, but I’m wondering if there’s a ‘scientific’ reason for the lack of checking? Doesn’t bother me- just curious!

I remember that the first runs had some chipping issues similar to/same as the "Flash Coat" laquer that was used on the PV series so they changed the formula. I believe that was during the first couple of runs.

I always worried that mine got too close to a green big muff (or late 70s Chevrolet) and it caught some paint disease. Mine is not the first couple of years (2016) and chips regularly, if not comically.

I've just picked up a Johnny Marr Jaguar (black) for a very good price on Ebay. Its had the narrower 52mm replacement bridge fitted. The bottom E string sometimes falls off the edge of the fretboard though - the spacing with the high E is actually fine. So I have taken it to a techie who is going to cut a new bone nut. Hopefully this will sort it. I am surprised that its needed both bridge and nut replacements. I wonder what Johnny himself would make of it. Otherwise the guitar is in excellent condition - just a few light scuffs and tiny dinks to the paint. The neck is beautiful to play (bottom E string aside) and the variety of sounds I can get from it is amazing. To be honest, I am thrilled with it, especially for the price. I'd like to replace the pick guard with a decent tort and I'm going to remove the Johnny Marr sticker from the headstock. I will never sell the Johnny Marr jaguar. I only want one electric guitar that is a do-it-all and this is the one!

I’d love a black one! Not sure I’d consider it a ‘do it all’ guitar though…
