I know everyone has their own taste, but I'm always surprised when someone changes the pickups on a Marrguar. That was my favorite part of mine. The guitar was just kinda dead otherwise though.
Huh, you must have gotten a lemon. Or I got lucky. It's one of my favorite guitars to play ever.
Yeah, it just didn't click with me and I REALLY wanted it to. I could never get the action where I wanted it, and that's after bringing it to my tech who is incredible. I know it's 7.25" radius, but my other 7.25" radius guitars had better action. And then when I played it unplugged it was just kinda thumpy.
I'm not angry about it or anything, it was fun while I had it, but I traded it for my Ric 330, and I'm very happy I made that trade.

Having moved from a Rickenbacker 330 to a Marr myself, there is definitely some sonic overlap (if not tons).
I've found that the Marr Jaguar really seems to work best with a compressor, more so than any other 6 string I've played, and a compressor seems to goose it more into Rickenbacker territory. (I'm using a Diamond comp, which feels like a perfect match with comp at 9 o'clock and both tone and volume at noon).

Agreed on the Marr loving a compressor. I was using a JHS Pulp n Peel v3 which was great.

Really nice! How do you find the Kinman Surf-Jags in comparison to the Bare Knuckles?
The BKs just didn't do it for me. I play on the bridge pickup most of the time and we have a few bars that offer plenty of electrical interference with single coils; the Kinmans are quiet. They have more output than the BKs. I find them bright and punchy giving the JMJ a flavor of Ric & Tele. Just what I like.

Yep. I used a compressor on all the time- crucially, with a blend knob. Adds some sustain and body without being overly effected.

+1 on the compressor; always on!
I love the BK pickups. Only gripe is that they're microphonic so drums come through during rehearsal (facing each other) and during shows in the past I've had feedback from the PA system (we play straight to the board).

Thanks for the feedback! Am still trying to decide which set of Kinman Jag pickups to replace my Fender Pure Vintage 65s

I'm going to have to plug into my DOD comp and give it a shot!

One of these days I'll have the scratch to buy myself a set of the BKs... I want to at least give them a try. LOL

TPS session with Marr just out (1 hour 45 mins). Watching it now. Highlight so far is when he plays the What Difference Does it Make riff on the Rickenbacker he recorded it with, at around 11mins.

+1 for this / these settings with the Marr, though admittedly I went the budget route and use a Mooer Yellow Comp. I'd like to try a Diamond one of these days!

I've heard really good things about the yellow comp as a budget alternative. (I was lucky enough to grab a Diamond before they got silly expensive. I'm not sure it's worth the extra $150 or so over the yellow comp). I don't know my way around compressors on a circuit/design level, but I really like whatever the Diamond one does with the Marr, giving it more focus and heft, but seems natural / doesn't squash things at lower comp settings. I'd long used Ibanez flavored ones (CP-10, UE400/405) and those seem to get along better with a rickenbacker 12 string, for whatever reason. I'm probably one of the few people who doesn't really like the Janglebox with a Ric 12. Or, more accurately, it does
that sound perfectly, I just don't really want to do
that sound.
