Add to our OSG List of Offsets

Post by edouglaspratt » Sun Jun 06, 2010 12:21 pm

The OSG Forum list of offset guitars and basses has been dormant for about a year. As you discover offset guitars that we've not identified, could you add them to the list?

There's a thread, posted originally by Kreuzberg, June 27, 2007, (New & Reissue Section) for adding to the list and if you happen to have interesting information about a make and model, please include that (note the info from AmazingShoeGazing on the Romero).

I'll be collecting all that in a Word document that I can share with anyone who requests it.

Doug

I would assume that this being a forum for enthusiasts of offset guitars that ALL offset guitars would be welcome for discussion . Not just a particular few . From the Fender offsets to the parlor Hagstrom, Tiesco or Eko oddballs ( which I think are way cool by the way ) . At least that's what I got from all of it .

Some of us are proud of our nonfender heathen-dom!

(although I am planning on snapping up the first Electric XII I can afford)

Rox, Ward, Sign, good questions. I can't pretend to speak for the OSG Forum. We do have a team of administrators who help with technical maintenance & structure; lightly influence the tone of the website; and try to protect us from the really bad BS that can leak onto any forums. Me, I'm just another guitar player and I'll defer to our administrators if I inadvertently overstep any bounds as I try to respond to your concerns. But here's my take on the new Offset Guitars Master List...

Since 2008, this OSG Forum has become pretty open to the various definitions of offset. A list of offsets has been around the OSG Forum for a number of years and was all-inclusive when I first saw it in 2007. Now in 2010, it's in need of updating.

Between this forum and the Jag-Stang Forum, we probably have the greatest pool of knowledge on offsets. If, together, we don't revise the old list and maintain an all-inclusive master list, likely no one else will. This is an important list, not that it's definitive, but it's the only such resource I'm aware of that's available for guitar experts, historians, researchers, and guitar lovers.

So please review this draft of the revision. Correct errors and add the guitars that have been missed. And provide details if you know important information...like, was the Romero truly the prototype for the Jazzmaster?

Basslab "STD" guitar.. which I imagine stands for "standard", instead of eeh.. sexualy transmitted desease..although, by the looks of it..
on the plus-side..it does have some sort of comp-strip.. also..no headstock :squint:
Image
http://basslab.de/
also available as (I shit you not..) 9 string bass, but I'm not even going to post a pic of it,cause.. :k

Edit:
I found more..
- Basslab Soul (bass)
- Cort G-series
- B.C. Rich Warlock ... was mentioned in the other thread, but ain't in the list here (I totally understand by the way)

So, to my understanding, Offset guitars are guitars from the 60's or Guitars reissues or in the spirit of the 60's.
I'am correct ?

There are billions of japaneses that could be on that list, but the YAMAHA's deserved it: Great Shapes ! Great sounds ! from budjet to customs or signatures !
I've made those two pannels for you, with the original 60's guitars and basses and the 2000's reissues:

No. Offset guitars are guitars with an offset waist. the term origins from Leo Fenders original patent on the Jazzmaster body shape. Some of those Yamahas are qualified as offsets, some not.

:)

I'll be adding these Yamahas and a few other suggested guitars in the next 24 hours.

TOB, would you help us to screen those Yamahas? Which would you include as offsets and why (SG2-c is not, for example)? Thanks.

BTW, the definitions for offset can be found on the Board Index' Sound Board, in the section on Questions & Comments. The thread is titled "Criteria for offset" or something like that.

Fender:
Performer
Performer Bass
JZM/JZM Deluxe (Jazzmaster acoustic)

Edit: Just realized all of these are on there... I don't feel special anymore :(

And yes, there is a performer bass, it kicks the ass (not in looks...) of every other fender bass.

Other:
Bruno [brand] Conqueror (bass, barely offset {maybe an inch} but it's a jaguar design so it counts).

All due respect if there is going to be a "charter" or "registry" you might want to get a group together and look up ALL of what you " accept" as an offset for this forum because it's not even a drop in the bucket. If you ask me ( which I know no one will since I'm new) is not to have a list and accept ALL offset waist guitars open for discussion. If not your "list" will always be leaving out guitars.

An example is that I have 6 guitars. 4 are offsets. 2 of them are not on your list. Just sayin, .

The Danelectro Offsets are actually split into a whole s*load of models, all from 66-68:
Coral Hornet (guitar), Wasp (4 & 6 string bass), and Scorpion (12 string) *these are beveled on all sides
Silvertone 1451, 1452 (1 and 2 pickup guitars), 1442, 1443 (long and short scale basses) *these are shaped like the Dead On '67s
Danelectro Dane A, B, C, D, & E series (all offsets, different appointments, A looks like Hawk, D looks like Corals)
Danelectro Slimline (virtually identical to Dane B series)
Danelectro Hawk (Guitar, Bass, and 12 string, all "student scale") *offset, but unique shape
Danelectro Dead On '67 re-issue

How do you parse this for the master list? I don't know, but the knowledge is eating a hole in my brain (I did cheat a little by referencing Neptune Bound)
