1950s Romero solidbody, very rare and historically important guitar. The story goes that Romero, a music store in New Iberia Louisiana, was selling Fender Amps in the late 1940s. When they got their first solidbody, Broadcasters and such, they decided that they too could make guitars. When the Fender rep came though to call on them they, he ask if he could bring one out for Leo Fender to look at. Leo like the body shape (not much else) and used the shape for his upcoming Jazzmaster model. :wtf:

Another offset, although an odd one:

Offset/superstrat experiment from the twilight years of Charvel's first life:

This is the LS-1, there was also a -2 and -3, but pics are pretty hard to find.

I traded for a blueburst LS-3 ages ago, which I then stupidly traded in for a GORGEOUS but unplayable Washburn RR150. I still would like to find another one someday.

Side note- I am usually not a fan of 3x3 headstocks on offset guitars, but Charvel's "Gumby" shape is the exception.

Thanks, Orang...I'd like to revive this list and encourage folks to add to it. In the past year, I've learned about lots of offsets such as the EVH Wolfgang (by Peavey?); Samick's Greg Bennett Wolfgang knockoff Fastback series, FB1 and FB2; as well as the Ernie Ball Musicman Axis and AX 40. There are so many more and I think it would be a useful project for us to compile and maintain as complete a list as possible.

Probably no one else will do this if we don't.

Doug

Twelve pages in this thread (so far)...

Anyone mentioned the Vox Consort yet?

In the mid-60s, JMI's range of guitars was expanded by the introduction of several models which were clearly modelled (even if not dead-on copies) on some of the Fender guitars they were also distributing.

Soundcaster = Stratocaster
Symphonic Bass - Precision Bass
New Escort = Telecaster
Consort = Jaguar/Jazzmaster-ish

Pics (not many on the web):

And what about this one, eh?

Intriguing. I get the "V" and the two "T" knobs, but what does an "MB" knob do?

Jennings did a Mid-range-Boost on some solid-state amps in the sixties. Perhaps this is something similar. Or maybe it's just the wrong knob!

Thanks, Jimbo.

Can you clarify your list of four...first three are JMI? the fourth is Vox? Then the image is what guitar?

And the Vox Superace appears to be offset as well.

So, to my understanding, Offset guitars are guitars from the 60's or Guitars reissues or in the spirit of the 60's.
I'am correct ?

There are billions of japaneses that could be on that list, but the YAMAHA's deserved it: Great Shapes ! Great sounds ! from budjet to customs or signatures !
I've made those two pannels for you, with the original 60's guitars and basses and the 2000's reissues:

Take care the skons is evrywhere !

Frelonvert,

Great addition to the list... 8) ...thanks!

For the definitions of offset:
1) go to the Board Index;
2) then go to Questions and Comments;
3) then find the thread: Criteria for offset Wed Nov 04, 2009 1:09 am.

Hello, EDP,

The Ace (and later, the Super Ace) was a mid-price Vox guitar from the early sixties. It was developed over the years with better components, etc, but wasn't really a copy of anything (other than being generally Fender-like).

The Soundcaster, Symphonic Bass, New Escort and Consort (none of them offset AFAICR) were all high-end Vox guitars which appeared in about 1963/1964, whilst Jennings (Vox's owners) were still the UK distributor for Fender. I heard that Leo Fender decided to dispense with the JMI contract because of the copies (which didn't please him) and gave the UK franchise to Arbiter instead.

I don't know what that "special" guitar was (I just found the pic on a Google search for "Vox Consort"). But it is obviously a Vox of some sort - those square ended pickups tell us that much...

I like the look of it, though!

Hope that helps,

JN

Hey, that's not a sticky? I'll sort that out right now. Here's the direct link, anyway: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... =5&t=29484" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyway, so

no, that's not it, but I think you can safely bet that most people who like offsets also have a strong taste for guitars like that, yeah. But the definition just comes down to the shape of the waist.
