VM Mustang Pickguard Replacement?

Post by Sir Simon Milligan » Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:32 am

I did a search and didn't find anything specific to the Mustang---I'm considering getting the sonic blue VM Mustang but I don't like the tort (not all tort, just that tort). So, I'm thinking about replacing it with pearloid or something else. Does anyone know if I can just buy any Mustang pickguard replacement or is this a different size from the Fender reissues?

Bump---anyone know if the pickguard on the VM is the same size as one on a regular Mustang? I'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow or on Saturday. Thanks.

Thanks. I chuckled when I brought it in the house today after picking it up and she remarked how she liked everything else but the tort (and she doesn't play).

haha i wish they would sell mustang pickguards in japanese reissue size in stores. it sucks waiting for the pickguard to come in and then finding out it only fits a vintage one even though the seller stated it was for the "classic series" (65 reissue.). :squint:

I can tell you one that doesn't fit. EY Guitar Parts. I had great luck with their jazzmaster and jaguar pickguards fitting VM Squiers, but the Mustang wasn't even close.

bumping up an old thread out of curiousity.

What about the squier VM mustang makes it a bad fit for most cheap aftermarket pickguards? Is it just that the holes don't line up? Or it is more complicated like the switch locations don't fit the body routing?

I might be picking up a squier mustang, but would have to ditch that tort pickguard.

i've yet to find one that was a drop in replacement. everything takes a lot of work / moving bits around (like the chrome control panel)

it wasn't really a lot of work time wise and i made money on the sale, so i was pleased.

For sure the mustangs aren't as popular as the JM and the Jags. Someone should get on a replacement guard because i think it would be almost a mandatory upgrade if you get a tort equipped mustang.

Personally i have nothing but good things to say about all three models. They are all good guitars after a more extensive set up out of the box.
