Post pics of the guitar that started it for you
Hey all, figured it would be fun to see peoples answers. Post the picture/video/cave painting of the musician/ musicians with the guitar that planted the seed for your offset love to grow.... Heres some of mine:
Yamanaka of the pillows, One of the first fender guitars that caught my eye for not being a strat, i believe he plays a cyclone.
Of coarse growing up in the 90's I saw a lot of this
To avoid being more stereotypical, since posting Kurt ill save the Thurston picture, plus Stephen malkmus' jazzmaster is really a thing of beauty.

Re: Post pics of the guitar that started it for you
My offset love began because of my great-uncle's passing. He didn't have any children, and my grandfather was the closest relative that could handle his estate. He brought home some amps/guitars, knowing I'd wanted to play an instrument for quite some time, and my life changed forever.
Of course, it didn't help that Nirvana were huge at the time.
Anyway, the guitar that started it all for me:
My #1 forever.

I believe that, while listening to Nirvana and Sonic Youth, and later The Cure and Dinosaur Jr, I didn't pay any attention to what guitars they played until one day, I was checking through ads to find a used strat when I found this exact picture:
And I'm not kidding when I tell you the feeling was a mixture of being in love and horny as fuck.

The first guitar I ever played happened to be jazzmaster shaped although i didn't know that of course when my dad brought it home for me as I was only 5 years old...I recently restored it and am using it again..
But what inspired me to try a Jazzmaster was The Cure's video for 10:15 on a Saturday night...

Andrew Wilson from Die!Die!Die!- incidentally, my username came from this band too.
I mistakingly thought it was a jaguar, and after researching them pretty extensively I became obsessed and joined here not long afterword. Somehow my interested shifted to jazzmasters (which is where it should've been initially), and so I built one, and now it's easily my number one guitar (though I have a few others that don't fall too far behind).

I'm going to interpret the title in its strictest sense: the guitar that got me interested in guitars wasn't an offset.
It was Joey Santiago's Goldtop Les Paul. Well, Kim Deal's goldtop LP. He borrowed it from her.

Funny thing is, although this guitar started it for me, I have never owned a goldtop les paul. But I got my first guitar, a Gibson "The Paul" (I couldn't afford a gold top LP) because of joe Santiago. When I finally had the money to buy a goltop LP, my tastes had changed.

Re: Post pics of the guitar that started it for you
The first guitar that did it for me was probably either Slash's Les Paul from the Welcome to the Jungle video, or possibly one of Izzy Stradlin's hollow body Gibsons. I was 10 when Appetite came out, and it had a pretty startling effect on me because I was never into sports and never had a "thing" to call my own, and suddenly there it was. I wanted to get into music and play the guitar. Ironically, I've never owned a Les Paul.
My first discovery of offests was probably Nirvana, because you just didn't see them in metal in the late 80's. Hell, Slash rocking a Les Paul was sort of an anomaly in that era of pointy, Floyd Rose equipped nonsense. The first offset players that made me WANT one, however, were probably Robert Smith and Kevin Shields. They were making sounds that I wanted to make.
