Learnt how to play (or rather, how to make heavily reverberated noises ) on a borrowed Hoyer/Höfner/H<somethingorother> until I found this one:

Horrible action, dead bridge pickup, frets above the 7th practically worn to the fretboard. But hey, it was dirt-cheap, came with the original case, and I loved the sound.
A very comfortable guitar to play, too: The poplar-body is super-lightweight. I got so used to it that after a while I thought electric guitars were always this light.
That style of pickguard would be amazing on one of the Modern Player Jaguars.

More jag shaped then you would think at first glance, really cool guitar. How much did you get it for?
The shape of the body is practically dead on, and the scale is the same as the Jaguar. I got it for 70 Marks (with case), but that was 15 years ago.
Of course it's alive - you cannot make music with dead Muppaphones.

From Nirvana's "Live! tonight! sold out!!" vhs.
I especially remember the Lithium video from Reading '92.
When the crowd sang along to the song and Kurt's weird but much cooler then a Yamaha eg122 guitar :)

When I was an early teen in the 90's Kurts Jaguar's and Mustang's screamed oddball and lots of $$$. Everybody knows and loves strats right? I also recognised that Hendrix and Clapton played them. Strat copies were rife and the sticker sealed the deal. Kids are so lucky to have these VM offsets now.

Nothing wrong with that. I fuckin' loved Live (still do). You just can't be caught singing their lyrics around ANYONE (our love is like water, been down and abused for being WTFDOESTHISMEAN?) This was the first time I remember seeing an offset of any kind. Big picture, so copy/paste.

What really made me want a Jazzmaster was the ubiquitous Sonic Youth. No guitar in particular, I've just always loved their guitar tone. Lately I've come to find out that with my wrist issues Jaguars are one of the few guitars I can play comfortably for an extended period of time due to the short scale.

i always only had squier strats and teles until i saw a mustang in a musicians friend catalog. had never seen one and was floored, it was the most beautiful thing i had ever seen. i lusted after them but could never afford one being so young and having no job or income really. i saw a used one a few years later, at a guitar shop by my house and they let me pay in installments. i regret so very badly that i sold it. i always have loved guitars but that is the one that actually started it for me.

Rowland S Howard was the first guy I saw with what I thought was, at the time, a less, "normal", looking guitar.
I then slowly started to realize all other musicians I loved used offsets.

Before this, I never wanted to play guitar. All the bands I listened to before them had Les Pauls, SGs or Telecasters/Tele Deluxes as they had either been punk or post-hardcore bands. When I heard what a mess Kevin was making on the record, I had to find out where those noises were coming from. When I found out you could do that with just two effects (fuzz, gated/reverse reverb) into an amp, my head exploded. Had a couple of non-Fender offsets. The only one with a decent trem was a Mustang that was hardtailed by a previous owner. I've been chasing offsets ever since. Just because of that tremolo. I thought a guitar was a guitar, but I realized I couldn't really do fluid/convincing glide without fucking up the set-up on my then offset's Strat-like trem. It had to be a Jaguar or a Jazzmaster. It had to be.
