Toronado with a floating trem? Guess it's been done.

Post by WonderCouncil » Fri Jun 07, 2013 7:16 pm

Something I've been curious to see, and something I've been meaning to post on for some time. How a Toronado would look with a Jazz/Jag trem. I don't recall ever seeing it done before or even really discussed. But then again that means absolutely nothing lol.

Well tonight while surfing a noise forum I came across these pictures...

I've got to say, it makes me want a Toronado pretty badly. Always thought a Toro with a Mustang trem would have been sweet. Looks amazing with the Jazz/Jag trem though.

And for those curious this groups name is/was "Terminal Outputs". Looks like they are from the UK. Only thing I found on them was a MySpace page, which is where I found the pictures at.

Now it's everyone's turn to show me up and post tons of Toronado pictures with tremolos :D

Pretty neat. Isn't one of those pickups backwards, though?

Every guitar's better with a floating trem.

Yeah, neck pickup looks upside down. I am more concerned about the saw...

That thing looks pretty sweet... so much that seeing that saw so close to it makes me nervous

...the American Astronaut sticker was a nice touch too.

If anyone was curious it's the silver Blizard Pearl color. No affiliation with the group but here's the MySace if you want to hear them...http://www.myspace.com/terminaloutputs...There's more pictures as well but those were the only ones with the tremolo installed.

I'm really digging it and it sorta really makes me want a Toronado. I've always sort of liked them but never enough to buy one. Maybe Fender or Squier will re-relase it some day with the trem...Pawn Shop Toro?

I'd like to see a Toronado with single coils though. Not sure if it would look too sparse with the HUGE pickguard. Perhaps with a Tele bride and single coil in the neck it could work. One of the Fender Bigsby style plates and foaling trem. Like the Jimmy Page Bajo Sexto. A Telenado!

I wonder if it could be set up so you can still use the string thru holes on the body and still have a Mustang/TOM bridge and trem. Or would the break angle, or bridge be too close to the holes?

I used to have a a Photoshop of a Squier M-80 with both a Mustang trem and one with a Jag/Jazz trem but can't find them now. So here's this...from an old eBay auction I wanted.

MIM Duo-Sonic with Mustang tremolo.

Aesthetically, it could probably work with JM pickups or a three PUP Strat configuration. Then again, Jags have a large pickguard and make two single coils work just fine, from a visual stand point.

But I'm fine with Toronados having humbuckers. I still tend to think of Fender as the single coil guitar, and think they should embrace this legacy more than they have in recent years, but it's good to embrace a few HB models, the Toronado being one of few I consider a success. I think Fender's business model is totally fucked, they need to embrace their classic models, but also introduce some inovation... right now, their business model (like most guitar companies) is based on appropriating tride-and-true, pre-existing models, and advertising it as innovation, when really they're just negating the "if it's not broke..." theory. Then again, I think some of the CBS era Telecaster concoctions are amazing, so maybe I'm generalizing.

But screw company politics. That band/Toronado look like a whole hell lot of fun. I'm curious how he was using that saw and what kind of sound it produced. All I can think of is GY!BE and their use of screwdrivers.

It definitely looks fantastic with a floating trem on it. I'd love to have one for sure!
