What's the shape/width on the AVRIs?  My JM has a neck that's as close to perfect as I've found.

AFAIK, They're modeled on the '62 with a typical B width and C profile.

What about CIJs?  I really like the neck on mine, but I haven't played many other offsets.

they're pretty similar, although I've heard of some variation between MIJ and CIJ, or just in general.  My CIJ feels pretty similar in profile to my new AVRI.

yeah, the CIJs do come pretty close to most of the vintage B-width C-shape necks i´ve played, while the MIJs feel a bit flatter and wider. mind you, i´m basing this on my own '02 CIJ and '86 MIJ, so this may not be the case with ALL of them.

what's the width & shape of tele necks? I really love my American Tele's neck, the CIJ Jazzmaster's neck is good, but not as comfortable as the Tele. I think the CIJ neck is a little wider, is that right?

I'm not too up on my vintage jazzmasters, but my friend's CIJ JM neck is noticeably thinner than my AVRI.

it's still a great neck, though

Fender Neck Width Table (measured at the nut)

A:  1 1/2" [1.5"] = (38.10 mm)
B:  1 5/8" [1.625"] = (41.28 mm)
C:  1 3/4" [1.75"] = (44.45 mm)
D:  1 7/8" [1.875"] = (47.63 mm)

As for the shapes, here's a graphic from an old Frontline mag that illustrates the various types.

As you can see in the Frontline snippet that I linked to in this thread, what you're feeling is likely more a question of depth than width. Radius also differs, from the 7.25" "vintage" radius to more modern Fender 9.5" radius (modern Strats & Teles) all the way to flatter 11" or 12" radii necks.

yeah, I see what you mean. I'm rubbish at actually ascertaining what shape a neck is, I generally just rely on whether it feels "good" to me or not.

Rather theorical... All Bass VIs were supposed to sport "A" necks... My '62 is stamped A and is 39.5 mm at the nut.
I also know a '63 Bass VI sporting a mere "D" neck (thought to be th only one in the bunch) measuring 44 mm...

All I know is that every single E.XII I've seen in ages sported a "B" neck.

Quite normal... The Villager was supposed to be strong with bronze strings, much heavier than regular E.XII string gauges.

Good luck with the reshaping of the neck heel...

cool, thanks Aug is going to be doing that and the truss rod is back far enough from the end to be able to reshape it just fine i would think
