Re: Firemist 65 Owners club
Nice one
Also: 'Homeless Blueless' is one of my favourite songs EVER, it's great to see another BBK fan around the place[/quote]
Well spotted, Andy. Bluebottle Kiss, the band where too much jazzmaster is barely enough!
It is great to hear Jamie putting his old jazzmaster back into action on the new Infinity Broke album. Jamie appears to have a P90 in the bridge of his. I wanted to try this out, so I ordered a set of Lollars with the jazzmaster neck pickup and a P90 inside the normal sized jazzmaster bridge pickup cover. While I will never sound as good as JH, I was very pleased with the sound of these pickups, it makes the jazzmaster more versatile (a bit like the contrast found in telecaster pickups) and these two Lollar pickups sound great together in the middle position of the rhythm circuit. I have a Japanese jazzmaster that I use for this experiment but I like the Lollar pickups so much that I think they will soon find their way into the firemist silver AV65 (not that there is anything wrong with the pickups it came with).

Dude's asking $100 below MAP -- on a second hand guitar with no retailer guarantee, no factory warranty, and (presumably) no return policy.DFiasco wrote:There's one for sale on my local CL. VERY tempting.
My advice: Call a dealer who stocks it and ask them for their best price. There aren't many new left in the US in Firemist Silver, AFAIK. The warranty/guarantees/return policies are worth $100 in the unlikely event you'll end up paying MAP.
If there are none in town, the benefit of going CL is you can try before you buy and avoid shipping hassle/possible damage/fees.

Of course. I would definitely try to offer him a more reasonable amount than what he's asking after seeing it in person.eigentone wrote:Dude's asking $100 below MAP -- on a second hand guitar with no retailer guarantee, no factory warranty, and (presumably) no return policy.DFiasco wrote:There's one for sale on my local CL. Re: Firemist 65 Owners club
AFAIK, the current going price for the limited colors (silver, gold) in pre-owned good->excellent condition is $1600-1800 US. One of the posters in this thread grabbed a "used" one from Dave's (in WI) for $1450. Calling a dealer regarding a new one will probably get you at or under $2000 -- Coming from somebody who bought one recently. Looks like Elderly and Woodsy's still have them new.DFiasco wrote:Of course. Re: Firemist 65 Owners club
i've become smitten by these lately after trying one in my local shop. i've been trolling for a used one, but they aren't really out there lately... and nothing like how Blake scored!
THIS JUST IN: here are a couple of B-stock blems offered at $1900:

also: this guy just dropped his price for a couple days $1950 new, and looks like he does a careful setup:

if i were you, i might wait until the last of these new and B-stock ones have sold before going for a cash deal. in the meantime... trade on!
i can't think of anything else to trade unless you want some unusual amplifiers

Re: Firemist 65 Owners club
Yeah, I'd probably do that... I'm not in a big hurry, I just hate feeling like I've got all this money tied up in a guitar sitting on the floor in a case. Especially when somebody else might want it, and might have their own guitar that they feel the same way about.46346 wrote:if i were you, i might wait until the last of these new and B-stock ones have sold before going for a cash deal.
I feel like a few years from now, I might really regret selling mine now... but I'm just probably not gonna play it between now and then. I want something I play in the meantime.
The color is beautiful - everybody who sees it says that. My wife's actually really disappointed hearing me talk about letting it go. But I just can't connect with it somehow. Everybody's had guitars like that. I'm thinking the AV65's in general might just not be for me.

Such a beautiful color and classy loom with a bound fingerboard. I wasn't aware of Firemist until now. Thanks for the GAS guys.

Re: Firemist 65 Owners club
yeah. i have this stubborn habit of thinking about buying or selling at the right time... i guess i buy a lot of used gear, and saving $100 or so on each thing adds up. or holding off on selling until there are no other similar offerings on ebay could get me more.
but musically speaking, i think your point is better! if it's not working for ya, there's not much inspirational value in it.
i've been enchanted by the looks of these guitars, and have long daydreamed of an original Fender IBM, Inca or Firemist Silver Jazz or Jag with matching headstock. but i was skeptical of the reissues, as i never warmed up to an AVRI and never tried an AV65. i got curious when i saw that one of our local shops had one and i checked it out. the finish was enchanting indeed. the bridge was pretty buzzy (par for the course, i guess) but wrangling the bridge posts by hand and working the trem a bit, i got it to calm down. the cool part is i became pretty comfy with the neck and it was pleasingly reasonant! i was into it, but they wouldn't come down from retail, so i wasn't motivated in the moment. but i'm glad i checked it out before setting my sights back to online possibilities.
