Shoegaze/Glide tremolo setup plz

Post by Rosteam2000 » Tue Mar 10, 2015 1:35 pm

I got a new Squier JMJM yesterday, I know I need to set the term so I could strum and bend at the same time. How to bend the tremolo arm (At whAt angle) and how much should I lose up the spring

You shouldn't need to do anything to the arm or spring. Maybe watch a few MBV vids on you-tube or even MBV guitar lessons.

The first actually important topic I've made turns out to be useless, the arm actually works, I just need to hold it by the very tip

Actually I think I'll get a Fender screw-in tremolo so I could have it screwed in not fully- this will work 100%. Just my JM tremolo jumps out all the time, but if I'll put it all the way down it won't be as good

No Jazzmaster trem 'screws' in. They are all a push fit. Many people bend the arm into a position that suits them.

If you want the arm to be higher (further away from the body I mean) just bend the arm, you don't need to get a different one. Just pull the arm upwards slowly but firmly until it sits where you want it when you release it. If you bend it up too much, just rotate the arm towards the butt of the guitar and push it downwards.

Just don't bend a screw-in bar while installed, or you may wreck the fine threads.

But the JMJM has a non-threaded arm, right?

Fuck, so if I'll just need to bend 'em, I'd better order some Japanese/squier tremolo arms In case I'll screw up

As long as you go slow and don't try to pull it so it points straight out from the body, you'll be fine. People do this all the time, and I've never heard of anyone breaking their trem arm.

Set the spring up such that the locki g mechanishm "just" works. This will give you a softer, dare i say smoother glide

I actually just did this with a Squier trem. I would remove the arm before bending myself. The unit isnt meant to stressed that much. I just took my whole guitar into my work shop. Popped out the arm. Wrapped the bottom in tape. Put the bottum in the vice and bend it downward to get the tip closer to the body. Obviously bend it up wards for further away. Check it on your guitar before stopping to be sure its perfect.

Awd
I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"
