Adjustomatic to Mustang bridge - advice required!

Post by Jan Deal » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:22 am

Hi guys, I have a Ryan Jarman signature Squier, which is a super nice guitar. However, I cannot get on board with the adjustomatic bridge, as I find it irritating when I am playing. Is there a drop in replacement Mustang bridge? I have a feeling that posts, bushings, thimbles or something like that will be different!

Any advice or help would be fantastic!

Well definitely the thimbles/bushings will be different because the AOM has screw-in posts and the Mustang bridge posts just sit in their thimbles.

Measure the inter-hole distance, and confirm that the Mustang bridge you're considering has the same thimble-to-thimble spacing.

To measure the hole diameter you need to remove the AOM bushings. There are several techniques for removing AOM/TOM-style bushings, eg ...

The Mustang thimble holes may not be the same diameter as AOM. More people go the other way, ie to AOM/TOM bridge - this page regarding that transfer suggests that the AOM / modern TOM-style bushing holes may be larger diameter than the Mustang ... which would make your transfer more problematic ...

Staytrem has a drop-in replacement, or check out this thread if you want to make your own from a mustang bridge you already have lying around.

Edit: I noticed the Staytrem bridge is no longer in production, sorry.

Thanks for that, I will have a read of the thread.

Apparently they're just backordered until October, but it's not discontinued or anything. Honestly I'd wait for that one if you can, it's easily the best option for me.

I hope they stick with this and beef up production a bit since they're the only company that does an actual rocking bridge AOM conversion, I understand it's a niche but if they're backed up all the time it means they're selling well, right?

I'd think so. Waiting on them is such a pain
