To those paying insane prices for staytrems...

Post by DesmondWafers » Fri Feb 01, 2019 1:22 pm

In the sold section of ebay, I'm seeing staytrems get up to near 200 dollars. Why someone would pay that, I don't know. I certainly won't, so I decided to explore some options.

It turns out there are several forwarding services in the U.K., which I decided to try. I found one that looked legit (forward2me) and even though it seemed like a gamble, I gave it a shot. You put in their address for the U.K. address and then they receive it and re-ship it to you.

A week or two later I received my staytrem in the mail for slightly upwards of $100. If I was a total piece of shit, I would order them en masse and re-sell them. Don't pay the insane prices set by price gougers, this is a simple way to get a staytrem for close to the original price. The cheapest reshipping option they had was 10 pounds.

Full disclosure: I am not in any way related to this site and I hope this post isn't interpreted as some sort of advertising scheme. I just think it's ridiculous that people will pay close to $200 for a staytrem.

Yeah. I looked into this too, and it seemed like the way to go. I’m glad to hear it worked out.

i'm with you.
I was thinking i would just reach out to one of the UK members here and ask them to forward one.
even covering all the costs, it should be closer to $100, than the ebay prices.
(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

A few people had their orders cancelled when they first switched to UK only - depending on how you pay they see your payment address, I think.

Thougt about that option too, even more sad people who charge these prices on Reverb etc are located also in the UK..So basicly unlimited supply

Could have get one a few weeks ago for 109€ but the seller decided to ditch the deal on the next day with unbelievable lies just to re-upload the offer 2 hours later for 9€ more..9€ :fp: for my pleasure it stayed a week without buyer :D :D

On the local ebay sites from Germany some people treat them as these bridges where in the future serious "investments" (some really write that..) and want often 170-200€

The whole Staytrem situation is kinda curious.

I assume the only reason why he'd stop shipping outside the UK is because it's not worth it anymore, right?

Yet Staytrem is arguably the best rocking bridge option, and the only AOM conversion bridge. I really thought there was a pretty big demand for their products, but I guess it's still such a niche market that cornering it isn't all that profitable.

If any Seattle-area folks want to do some group buy action let me know. I’d like a 9.5” for my project.

As I understand it he wants to scale down the amount of work he is doing, and selling UK only does that.

I see. So it's not really a business/profitability decision as much as a personal one?

Sorry to tell you that this will not work :( Maximum per order is 100 GBP, thats one Bridge and one trem arm+collet. 2 bridges would be more than the 100

Sorry but due to limited stock we can only accept orders from UK buyers. More info.
Also the total order value must be less than £100.

I’m not the most pro-capitalism person you’ll ever meet, but seriously?

Like many here I own more than one offset. I understand if he wants to prevent working the system, but that’s a little extreme.

I’m just about ready to order an AVRI bridge and call it a day.

He also wants to 'call it a day', but decided to wind down production slowly instead of shutting up shop suddenly.

It's a weird thought that in a couple of years from now Staytrem may be completely closed up, unless of course John sells the business.

If there were awards for contribution to the offset world, I'm sure John would get one. He never looked for fame or fortune. He's a humble guy who created an amazing product and sold it for a very slim profit margin.

I'm frustrated that I can't get any more Staytrem stuff, but full of respect for John and his business.

Cheers
J.
