Pickguard Replacement
Hello, I'm new to the site and I have a question about pickguards. I have a 1965 Jazzmaster, and need to find a nice pickguard replacement (tortoise). I accidentally got one of those 1962 Fender ones, and the screw holes don't match up. Does anyone know of the best place to get nice ones (not those red-ish Allparts ones) and ones that will fit on the 65? Thanks.

Re: Pickguard Replacement
Was it a CIJ guard that you bought? In theory all the AVRI guards should fit on vintage guitars, so you could try that.
However, none of my vintage guards can be easily exchanged amongst my vintage JMs, and the one that does have an AVRI guard needed a couple of the screw holes moving to get it to fit. I have no idea why .. but the old JMs seem to adapt to their guards over the years and if I need to fit an old guard to an old body then I tend to think of it as semi-permanent once it's on since it usually needs some adjustment.
What went wrong with the guard it had before?

The previous one cracked in two places. I've super-glued one of the areas, which may work.

So, if you aren't interested in red-tort, I take it you want brown tort?
Options for pg material is quite limited...and you can just forget finding a cellulose pg anywhere except these boards and ebay.

I think Warmoth sells celluloid tort blanks. How do they look?
Times change. Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky? Now it grows hair! We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

The one I have isn't even original, but it looks pretty good. Thing is, I have no idea where it's from. A shop that isn't around anymore put it in, and there's no marking on it.

Tony at Pickguardian has real nitro tort - its reddish, but it really looks great and has the mint/b/mint layers underneath - its very close to original fender tort. He made me one for a (gulp) strat, I'll post a picture just to show you how nice it is....
I'm a reasonable man get off my case...
