Locking a Mustang Tremolo

Post by dbishopbliss » Wed Oct 30, 2019 7:17 am

I have seen a number of methods described for locking a Mustang Tremolo. I tried putting the washers below the plate but I could not find any that were big enough to go over the post, but small enough not to fall completely off. So then I put washers on top of the plate and while this worked, I didn't care for the way it looked. While searching for smaller washers I came across some socket head screws with the same thread as the posts on the mustang (1/4 - 28). So I removed the traditional posts all together and used the screws with some shim washers. Seems to work great!

Sorry for all the separate posts, I couldn't figure out how to include more than one picture.

Good information, well put together. Thanks for that.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Am I crazy - or didn't Fender just release some signature model Mustang that looks like the vibrato but is a stop-tail bridge?
King Buzzo: I love when people come up to me and say “Your guitar sound was better on Stoner Witch, when you used a Les Paul. “...I used a Fender Mustang reissue on that, dumbass!

FYI for the Japanese trems you will need a M6 (or is it M8?) thread for the same mod.

I should have said this was for a Squier Vintage Modified.

Yep, that was the Ben Gibbard signature mustang. Haven't seen anyone elaborate on how they hardtailed it though.

OP's method looks fantastic.
