Adding series option to Epiphone Casino
Hey all
I’m planning on replacing the pickups and harness in my MIK Casino. Is there a wiring diagram to add a series option?
Is it worth doing? My only worry is that it will involve a push/pull pot and that the pot won’t fit through the f hole.

You may be able to do that by replacing the normal pickup selector switch with a 4-way rotary switch, not sure if that's a non-starter. But the existence of the Varitone means that there are at least some rotary switches made to fit through an f-hole.

With overwound pickups, I'd think the series option would be too dark for my tastes--I like the mod with low ouput pickups best.
While I don't have a diagram handy, adding a big CTS DPDT push-pull pot shouldn't be a problem as you draw every component through the pickup routes, and maybe only the grounding wire is soldered through the F-hole, depending on how much length you have available. On full hollowbodies I add extra length on the tailpiece ground so I can solder it easily before pulling the entire harness in with tubing and a dowel for the jack.

If you're worried about the push-pull pot not fitting through the f-hole you should remove the harness through the bridge pickup route and fish it back in that way. You *can* get a push-pull pot through an f-hole though. It just takes patience.

Not all Fs are the same though--tiny on some guitars. Not all push-pulls are the same size either. Unless I'm missing something and you're being funny--push it hard enough, you'll bust the wood right openMuscleDad420 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 8:42 pmIf you're worried about the push-pull pot not fitting through the f-hole you should remove the harness through the bridge pickup route and fish it back in that way. Another option would be a 3-way toggle that has dpdt lugs.
There are many like this one...

Only problem may be sacrificing a swtich position to get the series combination.

Re: Adding series option to Epiphone Casino
The upper end Pro series Epiphone semi-hollow 335 and 339 have push-pulls. They use conventional push-pulls (alpha ?) with the lugs on the bottom, not the newer CTS-style with the lugs on the side. The CTS push-pulls are a few mm less deep (good for fitting in solid body cavities with limited depth) but they are wider so not good for f-holes (and a PITA to solder compared to the alphas).
Adding series with push-pull on neck volume would look like this, but with your P90s. White is hot, black is ground. Just ditch the phase switch on bridge volume shown (wire bridge pickup hot direct to series switch, and ground the ground side) ...
Your caps and tone pots are probably wired differently, like on this Sheraton, but I wouldn't be touching them if I were you. I would keep your existing harness, especially if it is all shielded wire. If not I would possibly look for a shielded-wire one (you can get epiphone ones on ebay). I've seen people ditch all-shielded-wire harnesses for 'premium' separate-wire ones, and then wonder why their guitar is noisier.

Re: Adding series option to Epiphone Casino
Thanks for the replies. I measured the pickup resistance last night and both are in the 11k range. I definitely need to change the pickups if I choose to keep the guitar. But money’s tight. I’m still on the fence with modding this thing. By the time I sink enough into upgrades, I could probably buy an Eastman T64/v, which does all the casino goodness, and has Lollars.

This...those are already gonna be fairly loud and warm pickups, not sure you'd gain much other than a slight increase in volume and decrease in treble
