Old body colour...
My Jazzmaster was sanded to the natural wood (by me in my foolish teens!!) The colour was an off-black/kinda very dark brown. I was told it was a refin when I bought it but am having second thoughts now. Whats this done to the value? Its Alder, either '59 or '60. Also, whats a good price for a top-drawer 3-tone sunburst, in pounds? Questions, questions, questions.....

That doesn't really sound like any Fender colour I can think of, not in use in 1960 anyway. If it was a refin when you bought it, you haven't done that much damage to the resale .. get it refinished again and it will be the same value as it would have been if you'd never touched it, I guess.jazzheadmark wrote: off-black/kinda very dark brown
On the other hand, in the unlikely event that you've sanded down a charcoal frost factory refinish .. you don't want to know.

Agreed. Get a good quality refin with original spec paint and it'll treat you kindly later on.
Some folks also opt to have the bodies reliced to match the original neck wear, tarnish of the parts, etc.
A guy on my hall in College (mid-late 80s) had a '59 Jazzmaster (EARLY!) that his dad gave him at 13. Sunburst w/gold guard and it was immaculate. I remember trying to talk him into a trade for my Les Paul at the time, and he thought about it but wouldn't bite - he wanted an Ovation! I probably would have felt guilty about taking it off his hands...for about 30 seconds!

Sounds like it was refinned before-I've never heard of a color that sounds like that-even faded/degraded. My JM is about 70% stripped (just some burst on the back)-from what I can tell, even an OW refin (as I am planning to do) will not affect the value and in all honesty, might well improve it.

Thanks all for the response. I've heard of the Charcoal colour before, it definitely wasn't that. The body is now in the process of getting a new paint-job. 3-tone sunburst a la 59/60 Jazzmaster. The guys whizz at adding a bit of age to the finish. All the lovely cracks in the paint. Its looking vintage all of a sudden. All I need now is a 59 neck. Dreeeeeam, dream dream dream!!!!!
