Squier Jaguar Contemporary HH

Post by Ghostdriver » Sun Mar 31, 2024 10:01 am

hi folks

I have just acquired a Squier Jag HH contemporary body, neck, and thats about it.

I notice from looking at You Tube reviews it has a Series switch and Coil tap switch on the top rhythm circuit control plate.

Anyone have a pic, or better, a wiring diagram for this animal, had a search online and found nowt that really helps.

Anything appreciated, otherwise I will have to just wire a conventional twin humbucker system with a coil tap on just the bridge maybe using the bottom vol and tones.

cheers

It is pretty bonkers under the hood if I recall correctly - I think there are some teardown photos online but I haven’t seen a formal diagram.

There are only a few Squiers for which Fender has released wiring diagrams. The contemporary HH jag isn't one of them. Add to that the fact that the complex switching on the upper plate is via a small PCB, not direct wiring to the switch. You can't buy that PCB. And AFAIK no one has traced the wiring via that board. People took a long time to even figure out what functions the switching actually performed, with Fender not providing any clear direction on that IIRC. There is no other guitar offering that particular implementation of switching options AFAIK. Stratosphere sold a few loaded pickguards from the guitar but I doubt any of those are still available.

My daughter has one, but she plays it too much to let me tinker under the control plates!

As already stated, there's no diagram and the wiring is done with tiny printed circuit boards. However, I can tell you that on mine the vertical switch (when down) splits the pickups to single coils, and the horizontal switch (when neckwards) turns each pickup from series into parallel.

It's not going to be stock, so you may as well just do whatever you want with the wiring.

I had one. I couldn't really make sense of the wiring and I can only remember that the switching was not how I expected it to be.

I tore it apart to try and understand the wiring but that didn't really help. But as above it was too complicated for me to understand!
