Dead pickup

Hello wiring wizards, pickup sourcerers and other assorted experts. Hope someone has an idea on this.

I took my mates 70's Epiphone Wilshire (MIJ, screwed neck joint) apart, I thought the switch was broken - there was no sound from the bridge pickup. But when I checked with my multimeter, I got a reading except when touching the screws on the pickup. As you can see in the pics - there's some corrosion on the backside of the pickup. I would think that it's improbable that the wire in the coil is busted, but strange things happens some times. One other peculiar thing about this guitar is that the pickups are connected to the tone pot before volume. Is this common?

You say you got a reading, were you measuring between hot and ground? It says 152.7 on your meter, is that ohms or k? Either would be a strange reading for a pickup. The pickup is still connected to the circuit?

Yeah the pickup was still connected to the circuit because I was primarily checking continuity. I can check the pickup tonight!

Pickup reads 8.4k.

Pickup seems fine then. You’ll need to look for shorts to ground or lack of continuity somewhere, switch is a good place to start.

+1 to above. If you get a reading off the pickup, that's a good sign! It's most likely something else in the wiring signal chain.

Yeah! I've decided to rip the old wiring out so my friend can put it back if need be. I will do something fun, 2 vol and 1 master tone will give me an opportunity and I'm on a big Rotary pot trip...
