Whats the best way to replace a decal...
Should I just leave it alone? Maybe its not as bad as I first thought.
Would I effect the value of the neck by replacing it with a newer one?
I think it was Fullerplast who posted a lengthy description of how he fixed up a 1959 Jazzmaster. I can't find the thread now.
What products would I use? Is there a chemical envolved or do you have to sand it & re-varnish the area?

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

I think you would be mad to touch it,and yes you will reduce its value.
My 66 is trashed and its worth $2,300,but if i refin ANY of it i can cut that price in half!
Oh,and it looks cool anyway, leave it.

A replaced decal would definitely adversely affect the value. I would never replace an original unless it was entirely gone. I think that one looks really cool the way it is. In my opinion, a worn in neck wouldn't look right with a perfect decal. If it were eman, I'd leave it as is.

My advice as well... NEVER ever touch that headstock, it is perfect as it is.. Doug (fullerplast) changed the decal on his 1959 because it was already a replacement, and a bad one. I don't think he would have touched it if it had been original.

Incidentally. How saught after are bushings for tuners (1959-60)? I've ended up with a spare set as the tuners I bought came with some too. Might be able to make some money back from the taxman once this baby clears Her Rotten Majesties Customs.

Along with everyone else, I wouldn't touch that. You can still see it says "Fender Jazzmaster", so no problem there.
Make sure to mention that they also fit on Strats .. oh, and M@J@, of course.
Dunno, but they'd sell on ebay no problem I reckon.jazzheadmark wrote: How saught after are bushings for tuners (1959-60)?

A little late chiming in... but yes... exactly right.Doug (fullerplast) changed the decal on his 1959 because it was already a replacement, and a bad one. I don't think he would have touched it if it had been original.
I would def leave yours alone.

Well, I guess I don't quite agree with everyone.....
If you plan on keeping the guitar and never selling it, then I would probably send it to Fender to have it replaced by them.
You have to be happy with it. If you dont like the way it looks and it bothers you, then why the hell not replace it?
The only thing is if you let Fender do it, it may not affect the value too much.
It is YOUR guitar, and you must be happy with it while you are here with it.
Of course if you liked the decal the way it is, then leave it alone.
But I would never base my decision on some abstract concept like what it is worth, unless I planned on selling it someday.
I do have to agree with everyone though that it looks just fine to me. If it were mine I'd leave it alone.
JMHO

Agreed - do not touch it!!
You'll really regret it later.

You forgot to mention that it will make it "play like buttah". Gawd, I HATE that BS phrase...Dunno, but they'd sell on ebay no problem I reckon.

no, if he let fender do it, it would devalue it just as much AND not be the correct style.

The value of an object for which there is a market is not an abstract concept at all, even if you don't plan on selling it. It is very much concrete when it comes to insurance, for example!...
I agree totally on that!!rabidhamster wrote: no, if he let fender do it, it would devalue it just as much AND not be the correct style.
