Have asked elsewhere but was probably the wrong place... Anyway, I need to replace a poorly spaced (replacement) nut on my 65 Jag. What sort of material were on the original 60s Jags? Plastic?

I'm sure it would have been bone. Probably beef bone. It certainly was on my 1962 Jazzmaster (of blessed memory).

Get a piece from a butcher's shop and clean it thoroughly, then boil it for a few hours and clean again. Thus sterilised, and with all the marrow cleaned out, you'll have several years' supply of guitar nuts.

That sounds like I'm making it up. I'm not!

I thought this might be worth noting in this section. Acme Guitar makes complete wiring kits for Jazzmasters and Jaguars. It might be useful to those who are doing guitar builds and dont want to spend a lot of time finding each individual pot and capacitor. the link is below

Hi,
I have a question to which I can't find an answer. I'm building a Jaguar, but I'm messed up with the electronics. I want to use a DiMarzio SDS-1 (single coil size) for the bridge section and a normal Jaguar neck pickup in the neck. But how should I install the SuperDistortion? Can I just use a normal Jaguar wiring diagram and simply replace the Jaguar bridge pickup by the DiMarzio? Or do I have to change/add/leave pots, capacitors, resistors??

I really hope you can help me out here!

Thomas

Klein makes JM & Jag pickups now... I bought a set of their 1954 Strat pickups and they're great!

These were wound by an OSG member- same guy andrew's getting his pickups from for his last couple builds. I'm not sure if he's gone public yet, but they just sound so damn good I couldn't contain myself

Hi! I'm looking to replace the pickups in my CIJ Jaguar and need some advice as I'm new to this. I've been reading a lot on this forum and learned a lot already, but I'm still not really sure about some things.

I play mainly postrock and I actually like the sound of the neck pick up, but I never use the bridge pickup as I think it sounds really bad. Another problem I have is that the jag starts squeeling really loud when I turn overdrive/distortion on, it's not a problem as long as I'm playing, but I can't let chords ring with the distortion on, which is a bit stupid.

Now, there's a guy on a local website selling an SJAG-1 neck pickup and an SJAG-2 bridge pick up for cheap. I figured that would be a good upgrade as I like the sound of the neck pickup on my jaguar and would like the bridgepickup to be more punchy, but it is recommended to use this combination? or will the bridge pick up be much louder? And will this resolve the squeeling problem or are there any other recommended mods to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen much talk about the CPJM pickups. I would like to know more about them. I have them in my guitar and as far as I can tell sound pretty nice. I know they have bar magnets and the adjustable poles seem like a good idea. Anyone know if the magnets are ceramic or alnico? Not that I plan to change them but if I did what would be a good choice for a Jazz guitarist. BTW: I really like the mellow sound of the rhythm circuit, I think that sets the guitar apart from Strats and maybe even the Jaguar.

Thanks

does anyone have an opinion/description of the GFS JM pickups, both vintage and overwound? Really curious if there worth it or if its a better shot to go with SD or Novak

Hi gibs. Seems like were following the same threads.

I asked GFS, about their pickups, thought about trying some but their not RWRP which means more noise in the middle position. Here's their reply:

Hi,
The neck pickup is not RW/RP so they will not cancel noise in the middle position.

If I have a choice it's gonna be hum-canceling in the middle position. FWIW if I were to swap my pickups I think I'd go with Seymour. Saying that I'm getting to like the CP pickups, I don't need the extra gain and they have a nice clear tone for Jazz, not quite like a Humbucker but very nice. A tweak of the tone controls guitar/amp makes all the difference I need. Maybe if you're playing Hardcore hotter pickups would be an improvement?
